Grease stains on silk veil
I bought silk veil a couple of months ago—a beauty whose color and texture reminded me of jacaranda blossoms. I performed with it for the first time last week, and it behaved beautifully. Unfortunately, on my way out of the restaurant, I accidentally tilted my boxed salad; the oily dressing spilled out and dribbled down the front of my nylon garment bag, soaking through it and leaving greasy spots all down the edges of my beautiful veil. I was sure that the veil was ruined (and after only one use!).
When I got home, though, I remembered that corn starch is good for absorbing grease, so I sprinkled some on the spots, and left it.
The next day, I went online to see if there were any tips for getting grease spots out of silk. The first one I found suggested sprinkling corn starch or talcum powder on the spots, letting it set for at least a day, then ironing over the spots with a paper towel between the iron and the silk. I tried this method today, but the corn starch remained stuck to the grease spots. So I moved on to tip #2, which suggested spot-treating with baby shampoo. After gently massaging the spots with baby shampoo, I dunked the veil in a solution of cool water and Dawn dishwashing detergent, rinsed it, and hung it up to dry.
To my joy, the veil is as good as new! I was very lucky, since I wasn’t sure whether the color would be affected by all the treatment I was giving it. Heck, I wasn’t even sure that the veil was washable! But I had to do something. I suppose that a sensible person would have taken the veil to a dry cleaner, but I have yet to find a good one in my area. Who says I'm sensible, anyway?

Re: Grease stains on silk veil
I have to ask:
Is it possible to wash Akai veils?
Has anyone done that,what happens-
do the colors bleed into each other?

Re: Grease stains on silk veil
you should be able to wash your silk veils - I'm sure Akai sets her dyes. I'd hand wash separate though, just in case there are still some loose dye particles.
Actually, I've taken grease spots out of silks a similar way, talc, then dish washing detergent, I didn't iron or anything though, well until after it was washed.
As for tips to make you silk veil look great:
1 - Hand wash gently, you can use woolite or even dawn or synthropol (professional product) if you have it,
2 - then soak it it warm water and liquid fabric softener for a few minutes (this makes it extra soft to move nicely)
3 - then rinse in really cold water (that brings out the shine)
4 - and I typically iron the silk dry to get the least amount of wrinkles.
Your silk will look gorgeous.
