Eyelash glue.
I am currently using 'Duo' lash glue, which is generally considered one of the better ones, I believe. However, and I hate to harp on about sweat as I have been in the last few things I have posted!! I am still sweating the lashes off. Nothing worse than eyelashes half off and flapping about as you dance. The alluring and meaningful looks just don't have the same impact. JEEEEZZZZ.....,f:: Is there anything better? I am almost ready to give up the full lashes and go to flares. Anyone got any advice?

Re: Eyelash glue.
How much glue are you using and when are you putting it on? Before or after shadow?
I am a sweat HOG, seriously, I slowly walk down the street and sweat and I've never sweat my lashes off using Duo.
Just curious to see is its a function of how its going on vs. whats under it!

I hate lashes. However, I wonder how much you're priming your skin first? Do you do foundation and a power shadow/powder for the rest of the shadow to grip onto on your eyes? It can help with the sweat.
I do the old roll-press powder method for performance makeup and sweat will NOT go through it. I know I'm sweating though because of the horrid tickly feeling.

Re: Eyelash glue.
The order is - Mac primer, foundation (either Dior or L'oreal), powder, eyeshadow, liquid eyeliner, mascara on natural lashes. I apply glue to false lash, and wait 30 seconds as per instructions, sometimes a little longer. The glue is usually not overly tacky when I attach the lashes to my lids and have to be held for a second or to to stay there. I give it a minute, sometimes put the hairdryer on them, lowest heat and 'puff' settings, and then will add another bead of glue along the lash for extra safety. I usually don't need to do anything else, but if my lash application is a little 'off' I might run more eyeliner on to even things out. I did ask the sales girl/eyelash applier in the eyelash specialty shop (lashes are big time over here) if I could do that and she said yes, provided the glue is dry, which it has been.
Ive checked out a few of the tutourials on youtube and they seem to apply scads of glue. Maybe I'm not using enough.
Last night sweat literally ran down my face in streams. I have NEVER sweated like I do here, and I don't mind sweating as a rule, but I tell ya', this is extreme. Apparently the humidity is a problem for make up, so maybe it's just something I have to live with and restick lashes between sets.

Re: Eyelash glue.
The glue "shrinks"as it get tacky-
there is a possibility that you´re not using enough of it?
Priming the eyelid by powdering may help too,I have to see you applying to understand what goes wrong.
(I´ve worn lashes to partys, nightclubs AND dance gigs for about 15yrs.
I pair my beloved Ardell lashes with Duo glue without any problems.)Last edited by emma-bessa; 08-17-2008 at 05:03 PM.

Re: Eyelash glue.
Hm, sounds OK. Gendi used to put her lashes on first, don't know if that would work for you? I guess you powder very hardcore in the sweatiest bits of your face, like round the hairline?
I'd be saying "no way" to wigs if I were you! I can't even stand them here!
ETA: Have you tried lash extensions?Last edited by Zumarrad; 08-17-2008 at 03:28 AM.

Re: Eyelash glue.
these might be silly questions, but
are you using the waterproof duo glue?
are you wearing an oil based eye cream under your makeup that may be breaking down the glue?
is the glue fresh or old/been stored in hot temp causing breakdown?

Re: Eyelash glue.
Yeah.... I'm thinking it's simply the quantity of sweat produced that is the problem. I had no idea I could actually sweat as much as I do. I just spoke to another dancer who is actually a make up artist and she said there really isn't an answer. I'd better just get used to it and maybe try flares or extensions. Sadly my own lashes are pathetic and can't even be built up to a half decent volume with any of the super-duper power packed wonder mascaras on the market right now, and I just love the 'pop' your eyes get with false lashes. I believe the glue is the waterproof one (runs off to check) ah, yes, it is!!
I am finding the big synthetic pony tails are fabulous and really great for keeping hair off the back of your neck and face which helps a little.

Sounds like your doing it right. I would say try a little more. When I sweat a lot and have to do multiple shows I do have to re-tack my lashes in between. I don't think there is anything around that unfortunately!

Re: Eyelash glue.
What is it about the false eye lash that you like? Do you like the look of long eyelashes or how large they make your eyes look?
There are eye shadow techniques that can give you the appearance of thick bushy lashes if you have to opt for no lashes, due to them sliding off with perspiration.
I realized that false lashes actually made me look more sleepy so I might opt to wear them less and focus more on eye-enlarging MU techniques.

Re: Eyelash glue.
I like the dark-colored Duo glue, because you can use gobs of it and it blends right in with your eyeliner. The white stuff can look so icky when you're doing a smoky eye. NOT sexy!
Definitely wait 30 seconds or until the glue is tacky. And really press the base of the falsies down nice and firmly onto the base of your eyelashes. It takes a lot of practice to get it right, but soon you'll be able to apply your falsies in your sleep ,s::
Halfsies are easier to apply, too, and great for giving you that wide-eyed, winged Angelina Jolie look. Or you might need to cut the lash band down to fit your eyes: the darned things are often way too long. Maybe this might help the lash band sit right?

Re: Eyelash glue.
YEEHAAA!!!! Last night I used about 3 times the amount of glue I have been previously using - yep, gobs of glue is the answer!! 'thin line of glue'? Pft! I obviously need masses of it.
I have squitty little eyes. Piggy, I would confidently say. And short, thin pale lashes. Lately I have been experimenting with eyemakeup and finally figured out that, for performance, more IS better for me. I need the lashes and heavy liquid liner. I wish I had that big eyed, long lashed natural beauty that some women have, but I don't. Ah, well....

Re: Eyelash glue.
I don't. I buy them by the box at $17 per 10 sets and I throw them away!! Peel 'em off and toss out the window as I drive off!! No, I don't toss 'em out the window - this is Singapore. Get caught doing that and they chop your hand off! (not really, but eyelashes fluttering from your window will incur a fine!)

Re: Eyelash glue.
I am not sure if this is available in your area but there is permanent eyelashes that a professional can do. It takes about an hour and they blend in with your lashes however they really are not "permanent" when your natural eyelashes shed and fall so will the permanent. They look nice - but they feel just like the "glue on."

Re: Eyelash glue.
Isn't Singapore a FINE city, they say?
I used to live on Orange Grove Road. Once took a cab to Tanglin Mall, not realizing it was like 30 yards from my dad's apartment!! ;op
Glad to hear your lashes are staying on.
Anala, you just peel it off. I've used the same lashes for over a year now.

Re: Eyelash glue.
Sooooo... what brand of eyelashes do you use, Azhia? And what would you reccommend looking for in 'eyelashes'? I find the ones with the sturdier bands difficult to bend around my beady, round eyes.
when are ya coming to singapore?
The worst thing about those tiny taxi rides is that the driver will quite happily drive you the 30yrds down the road - and charge you the extra $2.50 for the peak hour rate!! Gotta make a living, right?

Hahaaa...Yup, he looked at us weird but was happy to drive us arrouuund the block (all one -ways) to Tanglin Mall. ;op
I wish I was hanging out there this December with the rest of my family, I'd SO meet up with you! :0)
I prefer Ardell BECAUSE of the hard band. If you have small eyes, use the ones that are more "spidery." The bushy, thick caterpillar lashes will make your eyes look sleepier and more closed. Also, if your eyes are close-set, put them on the outer 1/3 of your eye, rather than all the way to the inner corners.
Cut them if they are too long, bend them (like a Slinky) to give them more of a curve to fit your eye (demos on the DVD!). Voila!
