    MAC Lipstick recommendations

Not that I can't go into the store and ask...but I know many of you are make-up gurus and may have some advice!

I have an old tube of Maybelline Wet Shine lipstick that I love--but it's almost gone and it's discontinued. I have now joined the legion of MAC lovers out there and would like to find a similar product that is very moist and light but with color (not lip gloss type of color which is more transluscent--not looking for that).

I have large lips that get dry and I am looking for a product that won't get dry and isn't too intense with color because I usually don't need to draw attention to my mouth, but I like a touch of color. Not sure if I am giving enough info. My beef with most lipsticks is that they get too dry and don't go on smoothly so usually I apply lip liner, fill in my lips and then put the MAC lip balm in the tube (not sure of the name of the product off the top of my head). The Maybelline product is the only lipstick I've found that doesn't get all gross. Sometimes I mix lipstick and the MAC balm so it's a little smoother.

Rather than spending $15 on a lipstick I don't like, I thought I'd ask for advice.

    Thanks.

    Re: MAC Lipstick recommendations

MAC does a range of lipsticks called "Lustres" which might be what you're looking for. They are glossy but not sticky and they *are* more translucent, but being MAC they're quite pigmented nonetheless. My lustres are the nearest I will ever wear to gloss. They do add "a touch of colour" but stay quite well in my experience.

I find my ordinary MAC cream lipsticks to be relatively smooth on and not very drying. Some are definitely matter than others. Even though they are highly pigmented you will probably have no trouble finding one that gives you just the hint of colour you require because the range available is huge, and there are lots of nudes, light pinks etc.

Well, Zummarad beat me to it! I was going to suggest the Lustres as well. I think you'll like them.

I've not tried the MAC lipstics - I've been using SeneGense. You used two coats and then apply a gloss over that. It sets well, doesn't rub off and lasts and lasts - the colour stays with you. Just apply the gloss during the day and you are set to go. If you are interested in a Canadian distributor, let me know - I'll pass on her name. They also have foundation and eye makeup - I haven't tried those yet but apparently they don't rub off and if they are like the lipstick, they would be wonderful!

The long wearing kind are not for me---I just want a lot of moisture and good color. I don't mind a little touch up during the day. I've tried the long wearing kinds and they are not good for me. I think what I find is that normal lipstick texture doesn't produce a smooth thin layer. This is going to sound weird, but I have more groovy lips--I always have. My bottom lip has kind of a cleft in the middle...not like a huge weird thing, but it's there. I have a big bottom lip and if I have a lot of thick lipstick, it just looks terrible after about an hour.

    Mish mish,
Did you know that if you save empty Mac containers of any of their products and turn them into the MAC counter you get a free lipstick of your choice? (excpet Viva glam) This includes empty foundation bottles, make up brush cleaner bottles, eye shadow containers etc. I think you have to save 5 or 7.

    Re: MAC Lipstick recommendations

I really like the MAC lip conditioner and the tinted lip conditioners in "Petting Pink" and "Plum Perfect". They add just a little bit of color and conditioning, and then I usually layer on a MAC lipstick over top. My favorite lipsticks that add just enough color for a natural-but-enhanced look are "Jubilee" and "Faux". (depending on your skin tone I guess).

    :)

I think the lip conditioner is what I use daily--it is like better quality Carmex. I have kind of the olive-y/Angelina Jolie coloring (and that is about where the resemblance ends!). Tinted lip conditioner might be my kind of thing.

hmmm, the ones I have aren't quite as thick as carmex -but i bet we are talking about the same thing. :P The tinted ones are great and have spf. For my dry lips I use a lip balm by Aveeno every night before bed, its great stuff.

I'm no carmex expert...so maybe I am mis-judging the thickness of it!

    Re: MAC Lipstick recommendations

    Ok Ladies......

I work at MAC.....here is the deal....

"Lustre" lipsticks are the way to go!! If however, you find a colour that you love but is too opaque or is a matte, mix it with the lip conditioner. Mellybelly has "petting pink"....the most popular one because it is a very light/nude pink. My favorite MAC item (if I really have such a thing!!!!) is the clear conditioner that that comes in the squeeze tube. I swear by it, and if I don't have one next to me at all times, I will have a nervous breakdown!!!!!!

You may want to stay away from the the regular lipglass, but do try the "plushglass". It is the lip plumping gloss, and much more silky/smooth than the regular glosses.

Depending on the person, products wear differently. I have heard some people find "lustres" to be drying. Best thing to do is go into a MAC store and ask to try them on. Wear them around for the day and see how they feel.

"back to MAC"......when you bring back 6 MAC containers you get a free lipstick (not including the VIVA GLAMS) Not sure how the policy is in the states (assuming the same...), but here in Canada, if you bring back your empties to a free standing store, you get a free lipstick, eyeshadow, or gloss...ur choice!

    Couple of colour to try.....
    -"hug me" lipstick
    -viva glam #5 listick
    -jubillee listick
-lightly ripe lipstick (new, but limited.....hurry, it's really nice for a nude lip with a hint of colour.
    -petting pink lip conditioner
    -ample pink plush glass

Don't know your skin colour, but try those anyway.....they are the most popular!!!!

    Hope this helps.....good luck!!!

I'm a Mac junkie...what type of shade are you looking for? Peachy, pinky, caramel, rosy, reddish? I can give you lots of shade recs and possibly links to pics if you can be specific.
