Re: Do we have a September diet thread?
I'm in! I got on the scales recently... still under 180, so excited... I'd like to dump 10 pounds and give myself a shot in the arm. Been trying to do a little "something" exercise-wise every day and stay away from sugar. Was doing pretty well until me and my Pom Cootie just shared some vanilla frozen custard with peanut butter whooshed in.
Yeh, lose 10 pounds just in time to put 5 back on when I go visit the relatives next month! ..l;, ..cr.:
Oh well, we just gotta remember, it's not a linear process. Just as long as I don't yoyo back to 260 pounds EVER again.
.w.:

Re: Do we have a September diet thread?
Oh yay! Another means of motivation for me!
I recently spent the money to have my RMR and VO2 tests done along with seeing a dietition. I lost 5lbs in 4 weeks! Now only 20 more to go! (sheesh)

Re: Do we have a September diet thread?
Ive lost a couple sizes. Its not the "I've been exercising and eating clean" feeling as its the "I've been on an IV and barely able to move" feeling. Atrophy will do that i guess.
The good news is, I feel MUCH better. Like me again. Now that the pain is manageable and swelling has gone down, I'm more mobile: using my crutches and going up and down stairs. Ive been "working out" doing my PT, and just brought some light free weights up from the basement for my upper body.
I'm going to a wedding next Friday in a wheelchair. Im wondering, 4 inch stiletto heel on the good foot, or sensible black patent leather ballet flat?

Oh, the 4-inch stiletto for sure! As long as you promise not to try to hop on it.
It's nice to see you back and feisty, Sumaya.

Hey, it's nice to see you! That's a pretty avatar, too.
I tried to PM you back to continue our conversation about classes but it bounced -- now I understand why. I'm glad you're starting with Latifa: can't go wrong there! I hope we can meet up at an upcoming event sometime soon.

Re: Do we have a September diet thread?
Great idea Annwyn and glad you're healing up Sumaya! :)
I just re-started the calorie counting after a bit of a hiatus, but I'm happy to say I didn't really gain anything, so that's good. The break actually helped me feel more motivated now as I was starting to just get frustrated with a looooooong plateau. I'm feeling as if I can break through it now.
I've started to include walking in my fitness routine with the goal of going 8-10 miles a week (2 miles 4-5 days/week). I'm also going to schedule more gym time for myself to do weight, but when I can't, at least I have some exercise DVDs (ballet and Pilates) that have upper body components here at home. My teaching schedule is also picking up a bit so I'm going to work on creating new beginner choreos, a choreo for my more advanced class, the next piece for GRITS and then a few for me since I'm still stinging from the ACN competition (I was ranked in the middle percentiles, but it was the worst performance evah). Anyway... all that means is more dance rehearsal time to allow for choreo creation although I'm trying not to count that as "workout" time.

Re: Do we have a September diet thread?
I will join you for this month , double checked my wii fit told me I gained 9 pounds during my august vacation.w.: just did a little bit too much sampling of cuisine while traveling.
I just want to loose the vacation fat so I have to set my goal to loose those extra pounds, 1 month ? maybe 2 max.
First step , I signed-up for Ghana dance class last night. African dances are good to add a little cardio , so this should help.

Re: Do we have a September diet thread?
I have yet to lose the extra 12 pounds from my last pregnancy - and since she just turned 7 I'm guessing it won't be easy...c::
I would love the WII Fit but have yet to find it. So - it's bellydancing and maybe some Dance Dance Revolution for my workouts this month.
So glad you're feeling better Sumaya.

Re: Do we have a September diet thread?
Getting married in 31 days, have photo shoot in 2 days.
Trying not to think hard about weight & fat rolls. I just had surgery for & was diagnosed w/endometriosis which went undaignosed for 15 years because the docs always thought it was digestive problems. I'm trying to make a new peace with the pain in my abdomen & the fact that the pain makes me hate my belly which makes me feel fat, even though I'm not. There is nothing fat about a 5'3" size 6. Recovering from surgery, I'm trying to keep exercise safe & under control. Its okay not to log 50+ minutes a day of cardio right now. I keep telling myself my butt does not look fat in my wedding dress--who does that?
Plus, I have the most kick-ass menu for the wedding & I can't wait to eat it!!!

Re: Do we have a September diet thread?
Oh Taj-
I gave up wine too for about 4 months, then last weekend I went out with the girls, had some, then a wine fest last night, and They have convinced me I have to go out again tonight I am so sure that I will be drinking wine LOTS O WINE. So starting tomorrow morning NO wine for 4 more months, and back to the healthy clean food. Though this morning I have been pretty darn good, gronola cereal, organic milk, my coffee and a bananna. The hardest thing for me is giving up wine, cheese, and starbucks I am so glad the the closest starbucks is about a 30 min drive and cost me about 200 yen-$2 on the express way to get there, that part shouldnt be to hard. On the up side I have my first ceramics class today and I am SOOOOOOOOO thrilled that I am sitting in my dirty, paint, before baby jeans. They are snug but Heck they are the before baby jeans and I wore them every day in collage, So Maybe my extra weight is muscle? Or in my upperbody. Either way Im wearing them( snug) but they are on!!!!!

Re: Do we have a September diet thread?
I'm kicking around the idea of joining.
I've hit the gym again after I took summer semester and quit working out.
I'm taking the Border Patrol test next month and if I pass the written test, I than have to pass a phyical test of 5 minutes of step ups at a fast cadence, 20 or 20+ push ups in sixty seconds (four inches from the ground, NO girl push ups) and 20 or 20+ sit ups. I'm only worried about the push ups.
I've been working on them and pushing weights for upper body strength. I hope it pays off. If so, I'll be off to Federal Law Enforcement Training by the new year. GO ME!!!

I'm in. I lost 30 pounds early in the year, but have plateaued over the summer. I think Michele Joyce is going to kick my patootie at the end of October, so I've upped my cardio and am TOTALLY going to start counting my WW points again after dh's birthday Monday.

Re: Do we have a September diet thread?
Oh...summer boozing is always the death of me! As a teacher, I don't have to go to work for 6 weeks & its so hot & I'm so thirsty and drinks with straws, umbrellas, ice cubes, et cetera are soooooooo refreshing & relaxing. The worst thing is the heat usually kills my appetite or I'm so busy eating the veg from the garden I con myself into believing the booze calories are neutral. Wrong!

Re: Do we have a September diet thread?
So I had a photo shoot last night and I am absolutely disgusted with the way I look. It's not so much that I need to lose weight. I need to seriously tone up. When the hell did this damn cellulite develop on the back of my legs and butt? It didn't use to be there. I don't have time to go to a gym. I work 40 hrs, plus dance 3 nights a week, teach class, and have to take care of my family. There just are no more hours in the day. I have been having serious difficulty cutting out the sweets this past couple months too. My diet used to be really good. Now I don't seem to have the willpower to resist the jelly donuts, muffins, and the ease of prepared foods for supper. I am craving them. I stand in line at the donut shop knowing I could get just the coffee but I break down and get the donut and then spend the day beating myself up and feeling guilty. I need to get back on track. I also need to stop comparing how I look to 20-something gals who have never had children. My body is never going to look 20 again. I'm having a hard time getting a grip on that.

Re: Do we have a September diet thread?
Im going to change my mindset here. Im not going to worry about counting calories. Im going to eat in proportion what I want focusing on foods I know are good for me with a dash of those that are just plain yummy. Im going to exercise and just love myself the way I am. Im so tired of living like this. Im just going to be free and happy :)

Re: Do we have a September diet thread?
I don't even want to open the fat thread! haha, sounds like you are all on the right path. I'm getting into my diet and finally feel good about it. I'm seeing a dietitian at work and she told me to stay away from online calorie counters and stick to my own pencil and paper (or for me- I use Excel).
I recently found out my exercise induced asthma is coming back. Not great news, but it is still live-able. I was doing a lot of running and high intensity cardio, only to get intense chest pains. Hopefully I will get in to see the specialist soon. In the mean time I'm doing lower intensity, a lot of yoga, pilates, walking, rowing, abs, dance.
I'm trying to get excited about cooking and trying new healthy dishes. Problem is I hate going shopping for crazy abnormal things! I have found a few things that I enjoy eating and am trying to expand from there. Found some sweet and yummy desert-like fruit dishes to use as replacement to my previous brownie addiction. And now am trying harder to make sure I get food from all the essential food groups. What a battle! It is so much work to be healthy. In the last few months I've cooked:
low fat pesto sauce (uses spinach and water to supplement all the oil)
lentil soup
vegetarian chili
home-made tomato sauce
hummus
tabuli
black bean salad- (mexican-ish)--no cream sauce only vinegar and olive oil
