Thread: naked/nude costumes

Hello designers! I really love the nude/naked look costumes, or costumes with lots of wicked cut outs. Problem is that the fabric used is to light for my skin tone to really look nude. I was wondering of anyone has made there own naked costume and what fabric you used. Do you think I would have to dye the fabric my self to get it to match my skin better? Please post pics of you fav naked costume or one that you have made. Thanks

i've used flesh colored slips with the molded cups, for "parts". the power net type "figure fixing" ones. they come in a variety of flesh tones.

i cut the cups out and use them for the bra, then cut up the slip part for sturdy flesh colored power net cutouts.

finding a good flesh colored main fabric in a dress quality is alway a challenge. i would google around for foundation garment materials and see if there is something suitable. they seem to come in the widest variety of flesh colors.

if you can't find the power net slips, pm me. there are some currently in a discount store near my house. i think they still have your color. i already chopped one up for my self :p

The NDC and I own stock in flesh colored fabrics for brown girls! High quality and very good to work with in costuming. One of our (The NDC) costumes, was called "Cocoa Nude" which consisted of flesh colored material and thousands of Austrian crystals encrusted for designs. If you want my contacts, email or call me.

Hi sorry this has taken so long, I hope it is worth the wait!

As far as nude/see thru fabrics, I seek the help of my Drag Queen friends.

I started collecting sites for drag wear when I began noticing that the costumes Impersonator Artists at clubs were wearing costumes of high quality fabrics, great makeup, beads and rhinestones. Me being me, I just went up and asked how they got so beautiful! Besides being flattered, female impersonators are very forthcoming with information to buy gear. Besides secrets with duct tape, surgical tapes, adhesive breasts, and the fact the Preparation H is not just for the booty, it is used on the face.

One such item I was trying to track down was nude material or netting that matches the skin tones of brown skinned women. Thanks to my gorgeous friends, here are my finds, enjoy!

Carol's Fabrics (Brunswick, OH) - All kinds of stretch fabrics. 1000's of bolts of stretch velvets, laces, leathers, prints, nudes, sheers. Also they carries all the swarovski crystal colors. Fringe, beaded trims, rhinestone chain, notions. No website, but they do send out samples and swatches for free! at 330-225-4436.

Spandex House - I go here as part of my mega fabric buying sprees in NYC for myself and my dance company. This is one of the few stores that carry a large assortment of lycra and netting that fits the various skin complexions of darker skinned dancers. The Theatre House - I buy lots of brown skin friendly items from here. They also have rhinestones and props. Once I needed a dozen Magic Genie lamps for a stage performance. They had them dirt cheap. Theatre House

I have many more links and catalogs, some are kind of strange (like a device on how to hide and flattern your 'ahem' member), but it has proved invaluable since items are hard to find on most bellydance costume suppliers and websites.
