    Isis Wings

Are all Isis wings the same? What should you look for when choosing? What separates high quality from student level?

One thing I would look at is the length. When I bought mine the ones on sale were all the same length, and I found I had to turn mine over at the collar several times and stitch them to avoid treading on them. Maybe some vendors have them in several different lengths.

there are many different kinds (fabrics). I have red organza ones I custom ordered from Ayshe. There are also lame...which are thicker and shinier, organza are more see through. If you contact Ayshe and tell her what color you are interested in, she might send you fabric swatches. That is what she did for me last year. Measure from the back of your neck to the floor..that is your ideal length.

:: Ayshe :: Passion Bellydance :: Wings of Ayshe :: Ayshe is New York dance artist performing belly dance, Indian dance and fusion styles in theaters, nightlife venues, for private and corporate events. Ayshe designs and produces "Wings of Isis"

**You can also buy them on ebay..not sure of the quality though

I'm definitely going to invest in a pair by Ashye when I have some spare $$ - being 5"1 and not handy with a needle, there's no other option. Hers do seem beautiful though!

Things to look at with wings:

    1) Fabric - is it see-though/lame/coloured? What sort of effect is it going to have with a costume and under lights?
    2) Length. You can shorten them but its best if you don't have to. The 'right' length is a matter of personal preference and practicality but remember that if they are too long you can trip on them and they are made of the sort of fabric that tears easily if it gets tugged or stood upon. Also they need to be of a length when you can get hold of the poles properly without having to reach for them or that leaves you with loads and loads of saggy fabric drooping down between you shoulder and where you are holding the pole with your hand.
    3) What are the poles made of ?- this can effect weight and storage (the wooden poles can warp)
    4) Weight. This can effect how comfortable they are to use and also it is easier to do moves like a wing shimmy with a lighter weight pair.

I like Lame I like the effect under lights and a lot of the tricks look better with lame, I'm not fond of the see through effect. My favourite of all wings are my double sided wings that are gold on one side and leopard print on the other. They are larger and heavier than most wings but they look gorgeous and fly so beautifully. They sell doublesided wings at Belly Dance Store.com
and at Dahlal Internationale : Welcome!
they do various different patterns with gold on the other side. The effect is lovely.

I've always rather fancied a pair of those. They have a certain...something.

I have a pair of sheer white organza, and they're great for a lot of varied things, and look awesome under lights, but I agree, I'd love a pair of the double-sided. One of my troupe-mates has a pair and they're fabulous.

I have the white irridescent organza and love them because they go with everything and look great onstage, especially against a dark backdrop.

i bought 5 pair for my troupe and they measure from 53" to 55" long. I'm 5'9 and handle the 55" ones just fine, but some of the more petite dancers in our group struggle with the 53" ones.

Measure from the back of your neck and make sure you don't get any that would drag the floor. The lengths, even within batches from the same maker, seem to vary a lot.
