does anyone have hair extensions that are sewn in?
how do you like them? any problems?
I have a lot of clip in style extensions but never have the time to clip them in properly (yeah i know doesnt take too long..but i have to straighten my hair first or else it doesnt look all uniform)
so am considering getting the expensive my husband will kill me if he finds out the cost of sewn in extensions so that ideally i'll only have to style the bangs in the morning (that i want to grow out..bangs were a bad idea)
?

Re: does anyone have hair extensions that are sewn in?
Several friends have sewn-in extensions and do not pay over $75. They do buy the hair themselves so they know the quality. That plus one time the stylist ran out of the correct color and added several different colors as filler. My friend sat reading for about 5 hours only to have to experience having over 1/4 of it removed and then replaced. Of course she had to wait until they could locate the correct color so she had to wear scarves for days.

Re: does anyone have hair extensions that are sewn in?
ive tried sew in, glue in and clip extensions.. and have put them in for friends and i find it really depends on what kind of hair you have.
i find that the sewn in extensions are best for coarse & curly hair because they have to cornrow hair first and the braids will stay in better, and wont become loose easily. on finer silky or straight hair, sewn extensions wont last very long, and the underside of hair wil become tangled and matted.. it also pulls on your hair for the braids to be tight enough and can give headaches if you are not used to the tightness.
GLUE in extensions are faster and easier to put in, and you wont have the bulk of the braids in the back of your head. the downside is that the glue can become loose and a strand of extension can come out of place. also the extension glue has a distinct smell (which i HATE). you might not mind it but i do!!
clips..well youve tried clip ins- theyre a pain cus you have to keep putting them in and taking them out.
goodluck!Last edited by aasiyah; 09-22-2008 at 12:46 AM. Reason: wrote sew instead of glue in 2nd paragraph.

Re: does anyone have hair extensions that are sewn in?
according to my hair gal, whom I consider the be-all end-all been-there done-that of hair knowledge, sewn in extensions really only work if you have ethnic hair. black hair can hold up to the tight cornrows, where my thin fine white girl hair would just snap and break off (the unfortunate experience I had many years ago when I tried braided-and-bonded extensions). if you've got thick, coarse, strong-rooted hair and you would be ok with losing a percentage of it when you take the extensions out, you might try it. otherwise, learn to love your wig drawer. ;)

Re: does anyone have hair extensions that are sewn in?
I've had the sewn in extensions and I HATED them. It didn't help that my hair is fine (though thick) and straight as a stick---the braid had to be so tight that my scalp was raised, red, and very irritated. The stylist that put them in used NAIL GLUE which probably added to that bit of misery. I'd seen him take something off the nail tech's table right before I smelled something peculiar and as young and naive as I was at the time I didn't put two and two together until much later. After two months I removed them myself and what a relief it was! Moral of the story: if you get permanent extensions try to get the type that puts the least stress on your hair and scalp.
FYI: when and if you remove your extensions you will shed an alarming amount of hair at once; the hair that you normally would shed is 'bound' by the extensions. If I remember correctly we shed about 50 hairs a day!

Re: does anyone have hair extensions that are sewn in?
thanks for the responses..sigh maybe i'll stick to clip ins..
i have really thick hair that is strong and healthy 'cuz i never use styling products and little heat over the years. but i dont want to lose it..
to add just length (i dont need volume) can they just cornrow a couple rows in the very back towards the nape of the neck?

Re: does anyone have hair extensions that are sewn in?
you could try that. I think hair growth tends to be denser on the back of your head, right? so if you lost some of the hair back there when you took them out, it might not be that big of a deal.
note that you should expect the extension hair to have a different texture from your own hair and to behave differently.

Re: does anyone have hair extensions that are sewn in?
ok here's a recent pic (today) for reference..see my hair is super thick, and thats the true length..it has layers and it curls naturally because we are close to the water..so i'd have to get uber thick curly extensions to match up right?

Re: does anyone have hair extensions that are sewn in?
if you really want sew-ins, you;re probably a good candidate for Bohyme brand hair. It is more likely to be compatible and blend with your texture. The cornrowed rows are called tracks, and from your description, I would gues that 2 or 3 would be enough to make a difference, not quite sure though. A lot of hairdressers charge less for a few tracks than you'd think. Whatever you get, look tor "remy" hair. If you care to splurge get the "hand-tied" rather than machine weft.

Re: does anyone have hair extensions that are sewn in?
I never had sewn in extensions but have had "Great Length" entensions that attach with a heat bond..and grow out naturally or shed like normal hair. This look super natural and feel just like your own hair! YOu can add as much or as little, I did my whole had a few times...they are pricey...1600-2500 depending on the length...but for me I felt it was worth it...saving up for some now! Good luck!
OOPs forgot to add that these are tiny pieces attached all over to your hair...not wefts.Last edited by TanyaLV; 05-13-2010 at 10:43 PM.

Re: does anyone have hair extensions that are sewn in?
Tanya, I have the same system but a different brand. They're called Hairdreams, and I usually pay around 6-700 for the whole head. I could put in more, but what I have is usually enough (75 pieces). and they last 6 months for me - I try to stretch my bucks :)
Try them, I'm sure you would like them. I've used this hair type since 2007.
