Snaggy Costumes?
Are they worth it? A new costume came in the mail with long chiffon sleeves down past my wrists. Beautiful costume, but in trying it on, I caught the sleeves three times on the rinestone embellishments on the skirt.
Now I wonder what will happen when I dance in it--onstage stag attack. Silk is slippery, but maybe it'll snag at my veils?
Did you keep your snaggy costume? Did you have a snag attack onstage? Should I send mine back? I have a couple of days to decide if I'm going to keep it.

Re: Snaggy Costumes?
I've had snaggy costumes. They can be gorgeous and sparkly but they have limits.
Prong-set stones combined with long chiffon sleeves that brush against them is really a design flaw. An experienced designer should know this is a bad idea. If you really love the costume otherwise, you could take the sleeves off. If you want arm coverage, go with velvet gauntlets or sleeves. The prongs won't penetrate through the nap of the velvet and get to the fabric underneath.
If I wanted to use a veil, I wouldn't wear my snaggy costume; I'd wear something else. Also if you're going to wear a body stocking with a snaggy costume, make it a powernet one. Powernet can get snagged and (carefully) unhooked many times without getting a hole in it.

Sometimes clear nail polish over the prongs can help.

Ah yes, the return of the porcupine costume. Here's a thread about the same issue from awhile ago. Lot's of suggestions here:

I've had rhinestones removed from a costume for this reason, and avoided buying new costumes with them since. I don't dig snaggles!

I have an asymmetrical red Yasser with one mesh sleeve and tons of big chunky gems on the bra. The sleeve would catch on the bra every time I brought my arm down in front of me, but I was able to fix it with the clear polish. It took several coats, by no more snagging.

Re: Snaggy Costumes?
yeah, thats gonna keep happening unfortunately. i have a purple costume that shreds the top of the sleeves it came with.
i have found some bezel set rhinestone chain that's an awesome replacement for the prong set stuff. no snaggies at all.
think it was from either berger beads or bohemian crystal down town l.a. you can find both their websites on laraqs.com [thanks nasila!] you have to call and ask for it, cause its not listed on the site.
