    False Eye Lash application

No matter how much mascara I use, I still feel like the recent pics of me would have been better with the use of false eye lashes and am now convinced that I need to try them. Any tips on application? My freind told me that the glue can be a challenge, repositioning means redoing everything, and that they are not really re-useable. Also, I assume that the shadow and liner go on first?

    Re: False Eye Lash application

if you've never put on false lashes, might be good to go somewhere like Mac and get the syle that looks good for your eyes and have them apply so you can see how it's done. That's what I did, and learned the full row of lashes by themselves were too long and where to trim them.

Currently I use the #7 Mac lashes. Once you get the style you like, you can buy the equivelent look from cheaper brands at the drug stores if you wish.

    Basic application:
glue - the best glue is Duo & you can get from Mac as well. Hold the lash in your fingers and apply a thin line of the duo glue to the base. Let dry for around 30sec so the glue gets tacky (adheres better then).

application - I used to apply the lash directly to my lashes, but it is painful when removing as you rip out your lashes. Instead, apply to the base of your lower lid just above the lash line.

mascara - I have really long lashes and curl them/apply one coat of mascara before applying the lash, then another coat of mascara once the lashes are on. Some apply mascara before, some after - you'll find what works best for you when you start working with them

Good luck! lashes can be really fun

    Re: False Eye Lash application

I LOVE eyelashes and yes they can be a pain...i got some of the greatest false eyelashes tips from a drag queen ..g.:: (make sure you have a pair of tweezers handy :)

your best best bet is to apply eyeliner first, make sure you bend and shape the eyelashes B4 you put the glue on them, then apply the glue (the black not the clear kind) and let it dry for about a minute or 2 so that its sticky--by allowing the glue to dry a little bit it will keep the eyelashes from moving around on your eye. Place them on or near your lash line and press it down with the tweezers (i find the non-tweezer end works the best). then if you have to you can re-work your eyeliner to fix any issues

another great tip is if you can't find the one's that you like, you can glue a couple of pairs together to create a "custom" fit.

    FYI, i reuse my eyelashes all the time--i find they work best after a couple of usages,r:;

    hope this help
let me know how it turns out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just wanna say I LOVE THIS THREAD and...I LOVE BHUZ for all the wonderful encouraging, enlightening & educational info. I'm getting for my nemesis, the False Eyelash (BTW, we should totally have a False Eyelash Emoticon/Smiley..g.:). I'm hoping I can get enough practice going to be somewhat adept by the time Azhia gets here so she doesn't think I'm totally remedial when it comes to applying these things...no joke, I bought about 20 of these thingees at my company's sample room to practice.....l;,

OOOooo, one clarification needed: So all the other eye make up, e.g., eye shadow/contour/highlight, should be applied after false eyelashes??

    PLUGARAMA...

Aaah, now I can refer to the DVD (out in less than 2 weeks)!

    Techniques 22-24: False lashes!

Nadira is correct in that there is an appropriate type of false lash for every eye.
I chart the types that are recommended for types of eyes.

Not true! You even catch me on the DVD repositioning a false lash app. I like show how human this whole process is.

It depends on what order you like to apply your makeup. There is no right or wrong order. I even suggest various orders of application to try.

    Putting lashes on first...
PRO: you can get them really close to the natural lash line.
CON: hard to see "through" to put the rest of your makeup on

    Putting lashes after everything else...
PRO: you can determine if you really need to put them on after all your eye makeup is done
PRO: you can always reintensify the lash line with liquid or cream eyeliner on top of the band
PRO: if you use black glue, you won't be able to tell if you use too much glue

All belly dancers should have a drag queen friend. My drag queen friend gave me a little tip that helps me. I always put mine on before applying makeup. When I put it on my lid near the base of my lashes, I use a Q-tip moistened with water to push them around a little bit 'till they're sitting right where I want them and then tamp them down with the Q-tip. It also helps to use the Q-tip to remove any excess glue.

By the way Azhia, where can we get a copy of your makeup DVD when it comes out? Your web site? I can't wait. I'm sure I'll find some new tips and tricks in there.

Dude, please do! I've been dying for an excuse to go here! I saw one of the performers grabbing a smoke outside and let me tell you the exquisite costume and head piece this wo-man had!! Totally awesome. It's a very famous club here and I think is the landmark for the Village.

I get best results when I use a toothpick to apply the glue. The non-glue end of the toothpick is really handy for helping to maneuver the eyelash strip into place and making sure that it's stuck down where you want it.

    Everything Azhia said!
Just have to refer to my favorite lash dealer:
Online Shoppe for Discount Ardell false eyelashes, fashion lashes, duralash eyelashes, Invisibands lashes!

Once you´ll get the hang of lash application-
learns that the glue have to dry a bit before you attempt to place them, you´ll have "The Lash Epiphany".

The alcohol in the glue evaporates and the latex in it becomes sticky and shrinks...breathe...you´re not in a hurry!:)

False lashes MAKES the glamourous makeup IMO.
These are my favorites for nightclub performances:
Madame Madeline: Ardell InvisiBands Demi Wispies, Ardell InvisiBands & LashLites Eyelashes

    Stage:
Madame Madeline: Ardell ULTRA Lashes #206, Ardell Ultra Lashes

Instead of mascara in humid climates:
Madame Madeline: Ardell Fashion Lashes #110, Ardell Fashion Lashes

    Re: False Eye Lash application

i use duo lash glue. it took me a little while but i've gotten the application down. i've tried a bunch of different styles and found a couple that i like the best. as Azhia knows- "hotties" work best for me. they are long but not too long and fill my own lashes out enough. sometimes cutting them and putting a small section on the corners is enough if i dont want "full lash"
i put mine on after the rest of my eyeshadow but before my eyeliner. i let the glue dry then i curl the fake lashes with my own lashes, apply mascara and then eyeliner. the black eyeliner helps if i dont line them up perfectly and from being seen. the liner blends it all together. does that make sense?

    Oh nooo!,f::
I don´t know of any good quality lash adhesive that´s latex free...
but the Lashtite and similar products are like nail glue, just the fumes wafting makes your eye tear up!

Never tried these myself, maybe these could work?

I have used the revlon self adhesives. They work ok. Sometimes I find that the stickyness factor varies from box to box.

    Re: False Eye Lash application

Sadly, I think the latex is the most effective in this case b/c it allows movement. That was one of the most uncomfortable first experience complaints I had with false lashes, inability of the eyelid to move and "breathe" as normal. The rubberyness of latex conforms to the shape of the lid. Someone had mentioned using Eye Kandy Liquid Sugar as a false lash adhesive. Have not tried that one myself but you (Stardancer) may want to try it, as that glue is water soluble.

Emma, I do love that lash URL, you mentioned it before!!
Additionally, I have four words: Shu. Uemura. Lash. Bar.. I gotta donate a kidney to pick up a few pair...and oh, I will pick up a few pair! ..g.:

Has anyone ever used mascara on top of their false eye lashes?
I don't remember where, but I've seen someone do this on t.v.

    I doubt they'd be reusable.

    BTW
How do you take professional photos, when a fan is blowing in face, drying your eyes out?
Would false lashes keep the wind down?
(I'm serious, I really want to know)

GOTHIQUE!! haahaaa... I love it, it's like a real cabaret show! Now I definitely want to go! Shame on me, in my own back yard...

Yes yes, we "did fan" at the past couple RTCs and it worked pretty well. As far as cutting down wind speed, you'll have to ask the participants. ;0)

I blend real lashes to false with mascara and they are still reusable afterwards. I use a fan brush instead of regular mascara wand. It keeps the product on the lashes and prevents clumping.

    Re: False Eye Lash application

there is a lot of great advice here already (going to try the wet q tip for positioning and tamping - great idea!) but I wanted to post my techniques, if only to show that you really need to experiment for yourself to see what works for you, because different people will swear up and down by opposite techniques.

I do all of my makeup first, and do my lashes last. sometimes they just sit heavy on your eyes (kind of like your eyelids are wearing hats!) and I like to postpone that feeling as long as possible. I also can't imagine trying to do my makeup around them.

I aim to apply my lashes to my (heavily coated with mascara) lashes rather than my lids as that feels and looks best on me. I don't feel any difference removing them from my lids or lashes - it pulls either way, no big deal.

I prefer synthetic inexpensive lashes over natural hair ones. they hold up better for me. I reuse them tons of times. also notice the edges of different lashes - some have a very delicate edge, some look dense and woven and are very sturdy. I prefer the sturdy ones.

if when you take the lash out of the package it's very straight, hold the ends and 'rainbow' it up and down to work a curve into it.

I prefer clear-drying glue (duo) over black - if you make a mistake and need to move the lashes, or it smears, or you use too much, it doesn't show. when you apply the glue to the lash, go for a very thin strip of it with a little tiny extra bead of it on the ends.

letting the glue dry a bit until it's tacky is key.

drag queen tip: instead of aiming to put the lashes on at a horizontal angle (like your natural lashes grow), try sticking them on so they point up. looks great and it's easy to apply them that way. my application technique is to hold the lash in the center by the lash tips, with my thumb on top of the lashes. I hold my thumb right next to my eyebrow and lower it straight down, coming in behind my lashes. adjust from side to side if needed, then press each end (I try to press on the lash hairs rather than the glued edge so my finger doesn't stick to it and then accidentally pull it off when I go to move my finger away - but hi, I'll try the wet q tip next!) until it adheres.

my lashes of choice are the ardell demi lashes, which I find at the drugstore. the shorter width is handy because you don't need to be as exact with the placement. also notice that lashes come in different shapes - some are longest in the middle, some are longest on the outer edge. I tend to look best in the long-in-the-center or all-one-length ones, but I play with all of them.

finally, i just read this in a magazine and haven't had a chance to try it yet: they said to apply the glue just to the ends. I thought, huh, yeah, that's the most important area to have adhere... maybe you don't need glue down the center? I'm going to try that this weekend maybe...
