Clip In Hair Extensions
I was at Sally Beauty Supply and they had these hair extension clips. It was an 11 piece set of real hair.
I have super fine hair and often have issues keeping in clips (like those clip on ponytails).
I was looking to buy these to make my hair fuller and longer.
Any fine haired ladies bought something like this? Did they stay in?
I am so worried that I may flip my hair and loose all the extensions ..l;,

Re: Clip In Hair Extensions
Hmm I havent tried those. Twice I've bought a very long length of hair extentions from Sallys. Basically it was a 10' or so section that you cut to whatever measurement you need and sew clips on yourself. It is cheaper than the sets that have clips on already. The clips only cost about $2 and they stay in pretty well. The hair comes in 10", 12" and 18" I think and ranges from $15-$30. The first time I bought it it was a synthetic hair that you could curl and flat iron. I doubled it over for extra thickness on each set of extentions I made. The second time I bought some b/c my hair is darker now. They've switched to real hair and the only thing I don't like about it is, for some reason how they have it cut at the bottom looks jagged. For me its not a big deal b/c the hair is not longer than my natural hair and I was just using as extra fullness. But it didn't look good for other girls in our troupe who had short hair and was using it for length. Anyway, that may be a good alternative for you to try first before spending more on the 11 pc set. That way you can dance in it, flip away and see how it holds in your hair.

Re: Clip In Hair Extensions
In order to get the clips to stay in fine hair, you might try running some texturizer or sculpting gel through your hair and letting it dry first. Give the hair a little body - something for this clips to "stick" to.

Re: Clip In Hair Extensions
I have VERY fine silky hair, can't keep a barrette in it! I tried those very extensions from Sally and love the clips. If I tease my hair slightly at the root and spray it, then put the clips in, they're rock-solid (or as close as possible in my slippery hair.)
BUT...
then I discovered that my hair is too fine to hide the base of the extensions!
Someone on another thread mentioned taking the jaw clip out of a pony and sewing in some of those toupe clips to get a more natural look, I may try that.

Re: Clip In Hair Extensions
You know - I was wondering about that. I do not have a lot of hair so to try and cover multiple clips may be hard to do. Ok for stage but not for close-up/gigs.
I may try that toupee clips for the ponytail. Maybe just buy some hair (unclipped) and make something up.
anyone else with ideas? This is great!

Re: Clip In Hair Extensions
I've been using the Jessica Simpson pieces, both straight and wavy, and I have been EXTREMELY happy with the results. I have slippery fine hair, and without product (for the straight piece) and just regular spraying (for the curls) I can flip, roll, toss and spin my hair without fear of losing the piece, the clips are tenacious! I was also able to colour match really well.
I bought my first for $140ish(?) then bought my second on sale for $99 CAD.
They are too big for my friend, her head is smaller than mine, she had to do some surgery to make it work.
I think that there were three lengths to choose from. The longest isn't super long, but works for me.
Part of the trick I found (even lower maintenance than the instructions) was to leave my hair down under the piece. This way when you flip your hair, all that can me seen is your hair, not the line of the piece.
Hopefully helpful :)

Re: Clip In Hair Extensions
Oh, I should also say that the JS pieces are synthetic and cannot be styled.
The staight piece is much easier to keep coiffed as it can just be brushed with a soft bristle, whereas the wavy piece has to be combed and finger curled to keep it piece-y and not frizzy looking it seems.

Re: Clip In Hair Extensions
I was just debating these issues with myself as I wanted to try some clip in extentions and wasn't sure if I had enough hair to hide the clips. The style I was thinking about are the ones that look like tracts that you glue on but instead have the clips on them. One question, are the clips on the end of the piece or under the end so that they are hidden by the faux hair itself?

Re: Clip In Hair Extensions
I've thought about trying these, but worry about the clips breaking very fine hair (like mine). For the ladies that have used them, have you had any breakage problems??

Re: Clip In Hair Extensions
I lurrvvv my clip in human hair extensions from Sally. They do not come loose. My hair is medium-fine in texture and medium-thin in thickness, and I have not had any problems with the seams or clips showing.
I bought light brown ones and dyed them red with Natural Insticts to match my hair. They matched exactly and I got many compliments about how perfectly they matched. Now I have switched to using henna on my real hair -- and am about to go henna the extensions!

Re: Clip In Hair Extensions
I have very fine hair and not very much of it and am very happy with my clip-ins. I just got back from my first show with them and they stayed put all night - even through costuem changes! If you're afraid your hair is so thin they will show, put them on the lower part of your head, near the nape of your nek. That way you have more hair to cover them up.

Re: Clip In Hair Extensions
I wonder if blonde hair in general causes more problems with the base of the extensions showing? As I said, I haven't had any problems with it, and I don't have all that much hair. But I do put most of them in the lower 2/3rds of my hair, so there is plenty over the top to cover them up.

Re: Clip In Hair Extensions
Has anyone ever found nice curly extensions? I have a great clip pony extension that is curly but I am looking for something that will give me some length but I really do not want to have to try curling it every time I have a show.
Thanks

Re: Clip In Hair Extensions
I have super-fine straight hair. What I loved is that the clips had the exact same texture as my own hair (and color! I'm "dark brown"). I even can use the same shampoo on them as my own hair. I can wear them all night - for hours - and they never come out and never even feel like they are coming out. I've even worn them (against my better judgement) into a hot tub!
I got the REMY kind, with the little iron clips. I paid about 65 for them (on sale) - and I love them. I Plan to go back and get more in another color to give myself "highlights". :-)

Re: Clip In Hair Extensions
I have clip in hair extensions, some are single strands of hair, some a bit wider.
I have them in purple and turquoise... So I really wear them for a strong effect!
And they look great!
I cut them in different legths and distribute them evenly around my head so they look more natural.
Here's where I got them from: plastikhaar - hairextensions - dreadlocks - haarkreationen

Re: Clip In Hair Extensions
hmm, I have human hair extension, clip in, 16" length, actually bought them at a mall kiosk, for WAY MORE ($480) than what you ladies have stated above.
they are from Herstyler , I got the Elite Extensions Elite Extensions by HerStyler
I needed 10 pieces (about 1.5 boxes) since I have thick hair. The mall charged me a little less than 1 box (7 pieces) for 10 pieces (1.5 boxes).
I like these cause you can do anything with them, wash them, dry them, curl them, straighten them. and even dye them.
I'm not using them now since I colored my hair and it grew out and now I need the 18"; but when I use/d them no one knows the difference, even dancers I know (well I guess you know now
)
They have a 2-year warranty.
