Re: October Diet Thread
Disgusting, isn't it?
From one of my friends, I love this!
Granny Smith Apples cored and sliced thin, don't peel.
Real lemon juice, enough to coat the apples without having them swim.
Rosemary, dried and crushed, just a bit, you want to taste the apples! Eat! Yum........

Re: October Diet Thread
Ya know... I found that when I switched to diet drinks instead of allowing myself my one Coke and cup of tea I actually gained weight. The artificial sweetener made me crave sugar like crazy. I know I was eating way more calories than I ever drank because of the cravings. So now I drink about half a coke, tea with half the sugar and water with cut up strawberries in it. No crazy cravings. Hopefully that will help.

Re: October Diet Thread
YAY, Annwyn!!!!!! I LOVE yogurt parfaits!!!
I lost a pound and a half last week, that's REALLY good for me.
Hey, any other too-busy-to-cook types out there? I'm LOVING the Bear Creek Country tortilla soup and gumbo. Each is only 90 calories, only 10 of those from fat. (yeah, the sodium is ridiculous). Filling, too. I made the gumbo the other day, added some fresh okra and shrimp. Today I made tortilla, added some fresh tomatoes, cilantro and chopped jalepeńos and topped my bowl with lowfat cheese.
Dieting is so much easier for me if there's a big pot of hearty, low-cal soup in the fridge!

Re: October Diet Thread
Have you thought of making a big batch of your favorite soup on a weekend and freezing single servings for later? My sister -in- law does that and then she and her friends all trade so they have a variety. Any folks nearby who like soup? With winter coming I know I'll be making plenty (although I fear my Danish dumplings are anything but low cal).

Re: October Diet Thread
I have been back sliding - I was down to 138 & now I'm back at 145. For my frame & height I need to be between 125 & 130 ..cr.:..cr.:
I danced at the state fair yesterday & saw the pictures of the troupe & everyone looks fabulous & skinny then here I am - the token Fatty McButterpants. I think I need to have my jaw wired shut when I'm at work! My evil assistant has been bringing in cookies w/ are my kriptonite - I can leave the chocolate alone but show me a snickerdoddle & it's all over .w.:
I'm dancing this Friday at a little club & now I'm getting all freaked out cause I've turned back into a chubster. We have a gig on the 15th of November & if I behave myself I know I can safely get 8 to 10 off but I think I need the help of the snack police .p::
Save me from myself!!! YIKES!!!

I am now on my way to the gym

Re: October Diet Thread
Yeah, so I'm up again... so I've started "Miriam's 50 days of fitness" and bought myself Jillian Micheals' 30 day shred DVD and my goal is to do it 50 times between now and the holiday hafla. The goal is to try and lose 10-15 lbs and see if I can't tone up enough to wear the blue Venus I thought about selling and now am glad I didn't without a belly cover.

Re: October Diet Thread
Even though I am no longer trying to lose any more weight, I just wanted to offer some encouraging words. You can do it ladies! It is hard, but so very worth it in the end.

Re: October Diet Thread
Have you tried the 100 calorie packs of cookies? I know they're not as good as the real thing but they're not bad (I've only tried the oreo kind myself). That way you can quell your cravings for cookies but not totally blow your diet. Just a thought.
The 100 calorie mini hostess cupcakes are amazing......
Hang in there!

Re: October Diet Thread
Amity/ I have got friends that are gluten intolerant and some that are diabetic. I have several cookbooks for researching some stuff for them. I am a confectionary artist ( fancy for a make lots of really pretty sugary treats). I will see if I can figure out some snacks that will work for both and be simple as well. Dr. food has a really good cookbook for Diabetics and it is all really simple to prepare. You could look and see if any of those recipes would also work for gluten free as well. I will try and come up with something and send it to you.
Good luck to you in the meantime.

Re: October Diet Thread
For those of you tracking food intake in some way (either WW or TDP), are you counting your exercise?
In trying to vary my caloric intake and find the right level for me, I have my activity level on TDP set at "sedentary" with a goal to lose 1.5 per week, which gives me a bit over 1400 calories a day (I'm trying to get better about sticking to it to - this week has been not so great, but today's a new day) but I'm not sure if I should count exercise. I'm not counting dance classes or straight up strength training, but when I do cardio or intervals, should I count it?

Re: October Diet Thread
Miriam -- I'm still experimenting. I definitely think Daily Plate overestimates my exercise, so I don't record it all.
I don't record classtime, dancing, or yoga. I do put down any 'hard cardio' -- time I spend actively trying to keep my heart level up, during which I'm sweating/breathing heavily. I'm thinking of putting down only half that time, though. A friend (who lost over 60 pounds and kept it off for years) told me once that she only made up half the calories she was burning in her workouts, so I'm going to try that.

Re: October Diet Thread
Lauren - I had been thinking about just tracking 1/2 too. I'm trying to avoid giving myself too many calories by lowering the activity level and stuff.
Magdelena - The Daily Plate is what I'm using to track my food... it's free and I like the idea of the calorie goals, although you have to play with it a bit.
