    October Diet Thread

So I'm a little early, oh well! I need this thread!

I'm 22 and just found out I'm on the verge of diabetes (runs in the family-thanks Mom & Dad!). I'm a size 12 and my goal is to lose 10 pounds by the end of November, another 5 in December. Goal weight is between 130-135 However I work 45+ hours a week, on the road most of the time and studying for the CPA exam via an online course 20+ hours per week. Hence, my health has been on the back burner. Last Dec when I taught full time and was in college I was still the same size but MUCH more toned. I had a two-pack...now picture jello shimmies. Bleck.

If I reach my goal: I'm emailing Yasser for not one, but one costume for every ten pounds. Trading in carbs and sugar for sparklies!

Gotta love Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, Food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate I've been cutting down bread/carbs and for the first week it's been hell!

Any yummy, quick snacks or lunches anyone would like to share??? I'm all of a sudden alergic to wheat and tomato (hence how I found out about the diabetes) so any snacks or dinners without the above (and of-course easiest things in the world to find) would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks ladies!

i need to lose the last 10lbs of baby weight and i can't eat wheat either (or dairy). no advice just a i thought that might help to kickstart things.

i really like a sweet potato with loads of black beans and some vegan butter and cumin..it has good vitamins and loads of fiber. fiber fills you up and the sweet potato shouldn't make your sugar spike like regular white potatoes would.

Bhuzzers have a group on the daily plate. Join us! I haven't logged in since August. Fell off the wagon and just can't get back on. Will start tomorrow i promise!! I will look for you at TDP

My Dad is a diabetic. Tell me, are you opposed to Splenda? I know it's a life saver for his sweet tooth. I like to eat a really good salsa on a plain baked chicken breast. I almost always eat veggies w/ dinner. A quick one: sliced red, yellow bell peppers, english cucumber, lettuce, and cannelini beans. top this with a few table spoons fat free feta, and a really good basalmic vinegar. Simple I know but the key is to get really good basalmic. It's quick though not really imaginative. When I am eating healthy I am using food as fuel so sometimes it's not the most attractive looking meal, but it does the job for me. Good luck

I used TDP last summer then fell off the wagon when I moved in the fall. Started back up again the beginning of August. How do we find the Bhuzzers group? I've lost 6 lbs but seem to have hit a plateau the past couple weeks, so I need some accountability to get me back on track to lose the last 10 lbs.

I have a huge sweet tooth and something that helps me a lot is hot tea. I can have a cup of vanilla chai with a touch of stevia(which I've heard is a good option for diabetics) and that's a lot less calories than a cinnamom roll. Plus it's filling. Just my two cents.

K, so first goal for the group:

Week 1: Exercise for 2 more half-hour sessions you would not normally do.
Drop you daily calorie intake (if needed) by 50-100 per day to start out!

OOH that's a good goal Amity. Can we post here if we are meeting our goals? The more people holding me accountable the better!..l;,

Here is the link for the Daily Plate Bhuzzers group:

Groups - The Daily Plate Calorie Counter

Shala is our group leader, which means she started the group and all you do (if i remember right) is just click on her avitar and request to be a member.

if the link doesn't work, go to TDP, groups and search the group
'Bhuzers @TDP' and that should bring up Shala's avitar. You have to already be a TDP member, enter in your profile, etc, (it's free) good luck. Let me know if there are any problems.

PS my TDP name under the Bhuzzer's group is Jackaroo. See you on the plate

I added one more work out yesterday. I don't usually work out on Tuesdays because that's my packed full day. One more to add to reach the goal.

Well, I started eating better and getting a little more exercise about a week and a half ago. Dance classes resumed this week as well so that certainly helps. I have about twenty more pounds to go so will be checking this thread often!

    hello Amity,

my dad's doctor told him his blood sugar level was very high and he was on the verge of diabetes a few month ago. my mum heard from some friends that guava tea can help and so they bought some and then last month my dad went for check again and he's alright now. it comes in tea bags but i don't know if you can buy it over there in america.

good luck on your diet and i hope you'll order many many costumes very soon x

Thanks for the tips ladies, you all are such sweeties:

I'm starting to teach again, first time since Dec. 2 hours a week! I've been eating MUCH better and I feel better. My BF had chinese food one night and then pizza this week and I didn't even want or crave any! I had a bowl of honey bunches of oats instead!

I tried the daily plate, but it wasn't for me. I rejoined Weight Watchers last week, which has worked for me before (although after stopping I slowly put the weight back on). We'll see how it goes this time. I have a LOT to lose.

    Re: October Diet Thread

Amity, if you are highly sensitive to wheat, oats can sometimes be contaminated with gluten because they mill the grains with the same equipment. That' why sometimes you find a grain of wheat in with your oats if you look really close.

You can get oats from a dedicated mill that only mills oats, but you have to look around. Is there a health food store in your area?

If you are gluten intolerant as well as pre-diabetic, a good place to look around could be celiac.com

I don't know how severe your wheat symptoms are, but it has totally turned my life around to stop eating wheat!

And I've lost two more pounds. Losing weight was nearly impossible before I stopped the wheat. I've lost 35 pounds since I stopped last April (2007).

So I have less than 40 pounds to go now, before I hit 135, which is also my immediate goal (after which I will assess).

    We Rule!

I'm also dieting. Been tracking on TDP for two weeks and I haven't lost a pound! BOO! I am not always the best about my calories, but I have it set at the max (lose 2 lbs per week) and I really ramped up my exercise. I am feeling low about it. ..cr.:,m::

But today I was on my way home from work and I was starving...I realized that I still had a pear in my lunchbox from work. It was a snack I never got around to eating. It was so yummy and delicious that it reminded me that fruit really is nature's fast food. Every day I grab an apple, pear, peach or something on the go. If it requires peeling or cutting, then forget about it. I need to save my energy for my work outs! ..l;,

Don't give up Andalee. I was on the Daily Plate earlier this year griping that I hadn't lost one single pound. I'd upped my exercise, lowered my cal intake so what was wrong? I still don't know, but I swear my jeans felt looser even though the scale didn't budge. Hang in there.

I admit, I haven't done jack sh#t and I am mad about it. Ever since this past July on that fateful camping trip where I dove into a box of Crunchberries, my body was like "what's this??? Haven't had this in a few months, cowabunga!" and I fell head first off the wagon and have been in the ditch ever since. I need this diet thread to be accountable. I am just getting over a cold and I hadn't run or circuit trained in a week. Well, I over did it on Thursday and did too much too fast so rested up today. So frustrating because all I want to do when I rest is eat. I need a kick in the butt

Im here...........mostly......I really really need to do this. Last night I was sooo bad, but realy I have to do this. Found out the hubbs is home in mid dec. I have to take off at least 10 lbs by then. I have been spining 2 times + yoga 2 times + cardio weights 1 time + ballet 1 time a week each an hour long. I hope and think that is enough for a 1500-1800 cal diet to take off 2 lbs a week. I really dont know though. I am back on the daily plate and WILL stay away from the chochlate and wine.........UGGG if only I had a chocowine police living with me it would be so much easier......

I'm jumping back on the bandwagon.

I tried the Daily Plate, but life got crazy busy, and i haven't logged on in ages.

What started working for me a few weeks ago was eating small portions of GOOD FOOD (translated: NOT ramen! lol...oatmeal, yogurt, turkey sandwhiches, fruit) more frequently.

I'm going to try that again starting TODAY.

    Current weight: 220. .w.:
Goal Weight: somewhere between 155 and 170. (depending on how I look and feel when I get to 170...I looked pretty damn good last time I got there.)

Hi Amity. I've got a great lunch suggestion for you. Sushi. The Hannaford grocery stores around here have it and it's easy to eat on the go. It's also fairly low in calories, but filling. I personally don't care for the sushi that has raw seafood in it, but I like the vegetarian ones, plus california rolls and other ones that have cooked seafood in them.

    Miss you,

    Shahla
