Detox symptoms?
I just eliminated wheat, dairy, and some other stuff from my diet, as of about 4 days ago. And I suddenly feel like crap! Achy, flu-y (but no temperature), coughing, exhausted, dull in the brain. Is this customary? How long does this last? I got deadlines, man! Anyone else experienced this?

Re: Detox symptoms?
It is normal and it depends on how much detoxing there is to do! Sorry, no solid answers...

Re: Detox symptoms?
typically on the 6th or 7th day, you should feel a difference and it will be a huge difference. So just hang in there.

Hang in there, this is pretty normal. Try to rest and not stress yourself out. You will soon feel much better.

Re: Detox symptoms?
Leela, are you sure you're getting enough calories and fluids and all the nutrients you need? It can be hard to do that at the beginning of a major change in diet, when you're still finding a balance and might need to make some adjustments to cover all your nutritional bases. If you're dehydrated and/or not getting the right fuel, you'll be more susceptible to any bug that happens to be coming around. My doctor would definitely advise you to start a complete multivitamin/multimineral if you're not already taking one.
As others have said, please take it easy on yourself, too. That's a lot of change all at once, and I'm sure your body is going "Whoa, what just happened there?" It may need to "take a moment" to compose itself and adjust to the new situation. Hope you feel better soon!

Re: Detox symptoms?
Acserola (vit C from cherries) in powder form... it works like a charm to keep the bug away. When I was sick I took a teaspoon of acserola and the next day I was feeling better, not 100%, but better.

Re: Detox symptoms?
Making drastic changes in your diet usually results in several days of feeling off. When I gave up meat several years ago, I had major GI issues for about a week while my body adjusted. Once my body did, the GI issues went away and I felt so much better than I had before! Just hang in there. I second the recommendation to take vitamins.
A few years back, I cut out caffeine and felt miserable for days. I ended up being totally caffeine free for about a year.Last edited by damiena; 09-30-2008 at 03:57 PM.
