So I bought this fabolous new costume (no, no pics yet) but the bra is made only in lycra. It isnīt lined with any sturdier fabric and I think I need to do that before I sew the hooks in and make all adjustments to prevent it to stretch out.
So what fabric is best tu use. I really need it to be sturdy cause the bra is similar to this:
Belly Dance Store.com
And all made in just plain lycra with beading (the lycra is double, so itīs used for lining also)
I was a bit surprised to find out that they only used lycra, but the costume is just beautiful and I believe it all kan be fixed, so please help!

Re: What fabric to use for lining?
It's about personal taste, really... go with whatever you like best!
I personally don't like felt. While it is easy to work with and comes in a range of colors, I sweat when I dance and the felt leaves my sweat to drip down my body and when I take off my bra, my breasts are all wet. It's not that I sweat all that much, but the felt doesn't absorb.
I use broadcloth. It's cheap, the cotton feels nice against my skin and it absorbs the sweat.

You can use duck cloth, but make sure you fray check the edges. It is very sturdy but it is a bit rough so I would sew a softer fabric to the side that will be against your skin.

I have used both felt and cotton. In the end I've decided I like felt best for belts. The fuzzy texture can help keep them from moving. I like cotton best for bras. It's soft and helps absorb sweat.
I read on here somewhere that one dancer liked using flannel. That sounded super soft and cozy, although I haven't tried it.

I generally use tee shirt material. Soaks up sweat, comes in a lot of colours, easy to get. And you don't feel guilty taking it out and redoing it because of cost! It's cheap!

Re: What fabric to use for lining?
broadcloth, or muslin, if you can get the matching color........jersey may have too much stretch, but broadcloth and muslin are still light enuf, yet sturdy enuf to keep it from stretching too much

I like t-shirt material because it doesn't fray, so you don't have to fold it under, it's soft next to the skin (I don't care for the feel of felt), and it's absorbent (and cotton, so it doesn't hold smells as badly as synthetic).
My other favorite material is cotton printed fabric in wacky prints that are a similar color to the costume. (I've used gingham, calico, and just bought fabric with monkeys on it to re-line my animal print bra/belt set with). It makes me happy when the inside of my costume is fun and funky, and those fabrics also don't seem to hold sweaty smells as bad as the lower quality fabrics that costumes are usually lined with.

Cotton will wick away the moisture. I have a heavy coin bra that has a cotton triangular shaped lining and it has three little velcro tabs attached to the lining so you can remove to hand wash away the perspiration. I love it.

I like cottons too - tho a friend of mine uses chamois cloth.
It's soft, absorbs moisture, and most are anti-bacterial - so there won't be any smell.
I keep meaning to give this a try one day.
