Help! I want to make a trumpet skirt.
I had cut six pannels of fabric but I dont know how wide must be the "godets" or inserts. The lenght of the insert must be knee to feet? Ty.

Re: Help! I want to make a trumpet skirt.
Do you happen to have a trumpet skirt that fits you? If not let me know and I'll measure mine for you. Send me a PM if you want the info. Bad memory here but I think I have several variations - my fav has half circle inserts all around. My inserts are from knee to floor.

Hi daisyann,
Here are links to a few previous threads on making such a skirt
(on top of page just below the BHUZ banner, click on "Search" then enter key words like "trumpet" and/or "mermaid"):

Re: Help! I want to make a trumpet skirt.
Width:
I have used 1/4 circle chiffon inserts. These are OK, however in retrospect I would prefer something with more flare and if so, 1/3 circle or 1/2 circle inserts would be better.
Length:
It depends on how you want your skirt to look on your body and in action. Here are a couple of examples:
(1) shorter length, starting at ~mid-knee

(2) longer length, starting at ~mid-thigh

This one is interesting -- a mix of 3 different lengths:

WOW!!!
Thanks for the videos!!!
I'm about to make a trumpet skirt myself.
Daisyann to make the half circles for your insets (if you want it from the knee down), measure from your knee to floor, add seamallowance.
Then draw your half circle pattern.
Fold the pattern in half, to find the center point on the long straight side, mark it.
This is the top of your godet that starts at the knee.
:-)

Hey that's me wearing my Oriental Original 101 Shimmies! I couldn't believe when I tried this costume on at Dahlal's the skirt didn't even need hemmed.
You gals that sew are very courageous. I cry when I have to thread a needle.
