Am I the only one with odd hip measurements?
Just needed to vent a little about my crazy hips. After the birth of my son, my hips never went back to true shape. Ok - expected.
What I did not expect was that my upper hip and lower hip are the exact same measurement!
I see all these beautiful skirt style costumes that have an upper hip smaller than the lower hip. I feel like a freak!
I have gone as far as to check with several "clothing manufactures" to make sure I am measuring in the correct area. Yep - 38 all around. Ok - my bottom hip is 38 1/2 so I guess it is a 1/2 size bigger. whoopty-doo!
Anyone else have this same oddity?
Rant over ..cr.:

Re: Am I the only one with odd hip measurements?
Yes, but not due to child birth. I have a waistline but it is high on my torso, and I'm cylindrical from high hip to low hip to max booty.
But I don't look good with the skirts that sit high on the torso anyway, so it is no great loss.

I'm the opposite! 36" high hip, up to 42" max booty. It's definitely a bubble butt, and I can't wear the egyptian style cupped butt belts because they don't lay flat over my bum. I feel your pain! :)

Lilya, I'm so glad to hear that! I was beginning to wonder if I was a freak! I'm 35 upper hip, and 41/42 butt, and I LOVE bra and belt sets so much. It's sad.

Re: Am I the only one with odd hip measurements?
I'm pretty much the same high hip as low hip as well. My waist is not very much smaller either, unfortunately. I'm a bit overweight but I remember that when I was thinner (normal weight) I had kinda the same shape. Never been an hourglass shape. I have always had problems with girly jeans because they could fit perfectly up to the last two buttons which I just couldn't get buttoned. I reckon I would have the same problem with some of the costumes.

Yeah, my high hip and lower hip are just an inch different, which is why I like lycra or a bedlah with a narrow belt.

Re: Am I the only one with odd hip measurements?
Ravena,
You are not alone. My upper hip and lower hip are both 42". My waist is 32".
It's very hard for me to shop b/c I very regularly from a 10 -14 depending on the brand. When I wear clothes I feel the waist is to tight or the hips are to loose. I can never get them to go together. So, I wear alot of skirts.
My pre preg. measurements were great; I was 34-26-36. Remembers them fondly.
Now, I'm 34-32-42. BLAHHHHH I"m hippy.Last edited by Michelle75; 10-07-2008 at 04:33 PM.

OMG - My Sisters!!!
I too have never had the hourglass. Even when I was super way too thin, I never had a waist. The best thing to ever come out were low waist and super low waist jeans. At least they fit everywhere else!
I guess I just gotta stick to bar/belt sets. Not every fashion works on this body - LOL

Dude, I wish lower rise jeans would come back! Otherwise anything that fits over my butt has 3-4 inches of gapping at the waist! :)

i am so happy that they still sell low waist jeans, that's all i can wear, no waist, well about 1.5" differnt to the hips. i can never shop in the "womens dept" always end up in the teenager section, for pants.

Re: Am I the only one with odd hip measurements?
Yeah, I am a similar shape - narrow hips, small booty, waist high on the torso, big boobs, wide shoulders. Kind of a triangle-shaped torso, with the narrowest part at the bottom.
Hip poufs are my friend, too bad they're not in fashion right now.
I don't know if I could keep one of those beaded lycra skirts on my body! The weight of the beads would pull the thing right off me.
I like bra/belt combos and fuller skirts. I'm getting sick of looking at those lycra outfits, maybe they will go out of style soon. They're all starting to look the same to me, anyway.

Re: Am I the only one with odd hip measurements?
Well i can't wear low rie jeans cos they won't fasten by about 6". Normal waist jeans fasten as long as the waist goes up to my narrowest point. I have a very high waist at my rib line. where my waist is supposed to be is 372 and my upper and lower hips 40 and 40.5!!

There is never more than an inch between what I *think* is my high and low hip. It's because I have no arse.

Re: Am I the only one with odd hip measurements?
I don't have a high or low hip. Just kinda goes straight down. I'm an inverted triangle, like Dunyah. Broad shoulders, big boobs, high waist, and straight up and down below that. Even when I was a lot thinner, I still had no waist, no hips, no butt.
Optical illusion is your friend. Like Dunyah says, hip poufs are not in, but that doesn't mean you can't make them your personal style. Slim lycra skirts are probably out, but use trumpet skirts, ruched hip belts, swags, etc. to create more of an hourglass.
I also wear hip and butt padded undies under costumes. Helps the outline and helps keep costumes belts on the bod.

Re: Am I the only one with odd hip measurements?
I sew for several friends, most of them I can share clothes with so we are all very similar in size. Were working on dance costumes once and suddenly things werent fitting. When I took measurements, I discovered that I have a 5" disparity between upper and lower hip (yuk), and the two other girls had pretty much same size in upper and lower. So I dont think its that unusual.

Re: Am I the only one with odd hip measurements?
Most department stores carry the butt padded undies (the J.Lo look?!) But finding the hip pads is a little harder. I bought my first one through an online female impersonator supply store. But then I found HerRoom - Bras, Panties, Thongs, Slips, Shapewear, Sleepwear & More. Search for padded briefs. They have one called Nearly Me that has both butt and hip pads and you can buy extra pads.
