boobs....
Last night I was changing costumes at a gig in front of a mirror that showed me in a different angle. I took a good look at my boobs. Frankly, they are a little deflated. Actually - a LOT deflated. ,f:: I used to fit underwear so I have seen plenty of boobage in my time, and I am pretty realistic in my attitudes towards mams.
Here's my question - for those of you out there with smallish, soft, floppy deflated boobies like me, how do you make 'em look good in a costume? I pad 'em and wear slightly fuller bra cups, but are there any other tricks? short of surgery....

Re: boobs....
I would love to know the answer to this question only I have large deflated girls. I like to say they look sad all the time cause they are always looking down at my shoes! Wearing a bigger bra to provide more padding just makes them look obscene, not better.
Let's hear it ladies!

Re: boobs....
I have had the best luck with Wonderbras and VS's Secret Embrace bras that lift from the bottom and push them into the front/center a bit. I also never go bra-less except when I sleep and they are still pretty okay, but I can see that gravity works, unfortunately. I recently bought some from Soma Intimates, that are comfy but I'm not as wild about the shape they create.
I think some sag is just hereditary, too.

Re: boobs....
All you can do is wear well fitted, solid and supportive bras and make sure that they are in the right place. I am amazed by the number of women who will insist on wearing them low. Get them up and off the ribcage particularly when in costume. Also halter necks give a nice look, add other straps as well if this isn't comfortable for you.

Re: boobs....
deflated is exactly right!! I never really thought of them this way....I pad my costumes ALOT so that my boob is almost flat in there...I smoosh them up and in to make them look more curvy, then tuck the nip down so it doesnt pop out..LOL
when wearing regular clothes I have come to the realization now I can't go braless at all....I have to wear a full padded push up all the time to make them look good. ..mine are sad too....
I noticed a big difference after nursing my 3rd!

Re: boobs....
Mine aren't deflated, they are starting to sag, though. I agree with Candi - good bra that holds you in the right place. The cup should be at the base of your breast, not 1/2" below! make sure your shoulder straps are tight enough. Sew them into place if necessary! And if you are like me and chronically have problems finding bras which it properly, you may want to find a good seamstress who will adjust a bra which has cups that fit but nothing else!
Oh, and iif you are ever in Los Angeles and have the time and inclination, there is a store called trashy Lingerie which will take your measurements and custom make your bras for you. And the owner is amazing! She has been making bras and corsets for so long she can look at you and know what size will work!

Re: boobs....
After nursing four girls, mine are deflated. The sucked the fat right out of them I guess. I stick with bras (for costumes) that are a proper fit but also give me a lift while kinda smooshing them more together for the illusion of fullness. I hate bra shopping. I end up trying one like 10 before I find one that looks good and is comfortable.
Take care!

Re: boobs....
I find that a good strapless (only the good ones) with or without detachable straps, gives a nice rounded shape and lift without looking over the top. They're great under t-shirts. Plus, the straps hit in a different spot so that can relieve shoulder tension.

Re: boobs....
When padding, I put the pads (I use 2" foam) on the side near the armpit, and on the bottom of the cup. The small amount of boob I've got (barely an A cup) gets pushed in and up, miraculously creating cleavage. The assumption is that the same boobage swelling out of the top of the bra is also filling out the rest of the cups, but it's really just my whole boob perched on this little shelf inside the bra.

Re: boobs....
Nice to hear from other women who have the same problem as me. Two boys later, I also deal with the dreaded deflated boobies. I would like implants but hubby says no way.

Re: boobs....
mmmm.. if I make a shelf, my boobs just kinda dribble over the top like candle wax. Maybe if I pad in the 'pointy' part of the bra and flatten them like shimmygodess has described...
I think I'd like to have implants, but just thinking about getting two PSP's for the kids for xmas has given the hubby palpatations.
Actually, the whole 'padding' thing has completely eluded him until just recently when I got caught stuffing socks into my bra. It was a pretty awkward moment. I had to explain that it was totally necerssary - not because I want all the male diners to look at my boobs but because if I don't pad, some movements cause my bra and boob to seperate and seeing a saggy boob inside a bra cup is just not nice.
Then I demonstrated.
He handed me thicker woollen socks.

Re: boobs....
My hubby is against me getting implants too...says he prefers the real ones and not "fake " ones...LOL
if my bra is too snug...then it presses against my chest causing super sloppy soft spillage over the top....it is mostly skin and not fat...so it will look funny...so make sure the straps aren't too tight causing the bra to be smooshed against you..
does this makes sense..LOL

Re: boobs....
Here is my two cents on the boob issues:)
Frederick's of hollywood has some fantastic bras that have padding that lifts up and makes them look fantastic. the padding is contoured so that you look great and don't feel all smooshed. Short of surgery that is probably the best you'll be able to do. After 3 kids, I opted for surgery. My hubby was ambivalent. Do it if it makes you feel good about yourself but I love you just the same, kind of attitude. I wanted to feel sexy again and I did it:) Best thing I ever did. I can wear costumes and regular clothes and look great and I can take the padding out of bras. It actually helped my self-esteem so much that I lost 15 pounds! Just because I wanted everything else to look as nice as the top half:)
Just my thoughts....

Re: boobs....
At the risk of being inappropriately graphic - my aunt refers to hers lovingly as Cocker Spaniel ears! It still gives me a chuckle.
Anyhow, I nursed my three children and have the same problem except that I'm on the larger side (large C, small D). I wear bras that are a big snug on me and that have enough of a side on the bra near my armpit to absorb any... well... ahh... extra skin. That way I get a nice full look from the front and whatever way I place them will stay due to the snugness of the bra.
I just bought a costume and saw something neat. The previous owner had sewn a strip of stretchy fabric the same color of the costume. Each end was attached at the top corner of each bra cup and the center fastened in the middle between the cups. I'm keeping it in because it helps give more coverage, but she had stuffed the bra and I think she had used it to minimize the gap between the lifted cups and her skin. This might work for you?

Re: boobs....
I'm singing the saggy boob blues too. I just can't get them UP anymore. With most bras, my boobs in front sag down, pulling the straps down, causing the bra band in back to ride up. So still no support and getting them UP where I want them, and if I got the band any tighter I'd be crushing my ribs. But it's not just us. Ever check out the cleavage on pictures of celebrities? The very people who ought to have access to the best stuff for getting them UP, have them hanging out somewhere close to their elbows.
But when I do buy bras, I've been happiest with the ones from Sexy Lingerie | Corsets | Plus Size Lingerie. I've bought several of their more supportive bras, all were great, and good prices (they have lots of sales). They're just not delicate enough to wear with spaghetti strapped tops and things like that.

<I just had to open this thread!>
I heard there is a gel padding, as opposed to foam padding, that really helps push the girls up to give a really nice top shelf. Haven't tried them but I know of some others who have and swear by them. Not to be an ogler, but from a strictly aesthetic point of view, they worked really well for them too because they looked like they were more endowed than you would think!
Okay, I have a ton of work to do!

Re: boobs....
deflated would imply that mine were inflatedin the first place... they've been saggy & floppy since high school!
TAPE. usually I just wear a nice full coverage bra (I like the drea tisha bc it is full coverage, super supportive but still looks minimalist/feminine) Balconettes & demi cups look like I just poured them in there- they fit but they don't exactly fill. soooo... even tho they're big already, a bit a of a boost plus fashion tape stretches the floppy skin a bit & keeps the bra in the ideal spot for best, umm... fill...

I have use the chicken cutlets, when I was a deflated C. Although, some dancers say that it just doesn't work for them.
I have had luck with Fredericks of Hollywood Extreme Cleavage bra. The padding is a half moon if you wear a full figured bra. I tend to make my own bras for dancing, so this is the bra I buy for a base.

Re: boobs....
I have the dreaded deflated boobies as well. I'm a DD and you wouldn't know it LMAO But my SO says that he'd leave me if I got implants...he loves em the way they are. That helps me to feel better about it...if he loves them that much then they can't be all bad ,r:;
Best thing I've found for costuming is contoured padding. if you turned it and looked at it sideways it would look like a curved teardrop. Its thicker at the bottom and thinner at the top. What that does is pick everything up from underneath rather than pushing it up more from the front. I find that when its picked up from the front I get this weird shelf effect (and creases in the wrong spot)....it can actually make me look like I have implants LOL But the contoured padding makes me look natural...just puts everything back where it goes (which inevitably makes people ask me how the hell I got implants overnight without them noticing LMAO)

Re: boobs....
am fortunate that even after nursing two kids my B's remained perky but before i went under the knife to beef them up, i used to wear my bras halter style and it helped create cleavage and roundness..also used pads that i would sew into the bra cup so they wouldnt move around

Re: boobs....
Another dancer with deflation issues. Yes! to Darbla's statement, 'If the bra is tightened any further it will crush my ribs'. Won't go into the graphic details of slippage. Tried padding & chicken cutlets (they feeling heavy after a while), but the sling method sounds interesting.

Re: boobs....
Be careful with those chicken cutlets!!! You need to be able to attach everything, everywhere, in your costumes. Those gel kinds can't be pinned in and sweat can make things move about...we don't need to go any further with this..w.:

Re: boobs....
I found it easier to make my own. They are insanely easy to make...just some trash cotton fabric (which I always have laying around my sewing room) and some batting. Play with the sizes and shapes until you find something you like. I like to put velcro on them to help them stay in place...that way they don't migrate and I can use them in multiple costumes without sewing them in place.
I second the halter style comment too...most of my costumes are halter or crossed in the back. That helps BIG TIME.
