    Ahzia/Make-up Question

    I thought I'd get thoughts and perhaps our resident expert's opinion. I was being made up at MAC yesterday and the girl used a brush to do the foundation. The style of foundation was one of those cream sticks (which I've never used before) and I found it interesting. She put the cream stick on my face then spread it with a brush. I've only used liquids and creams with a sponge before. I was wondering, what are the advantages to using a brush? Is it better or just a different technique? Should I get a brush?

    Last time I had makeup done by MAC, the MUA used a great brush with a liquid. I immediately bought one of the brushes, and love it!

    They used a brush on me at MAC and I was told that it is becasue they are not allowed to touch you with their fingers, but I liked the look and bought the brush :)

    You honor me, mihnea!

    She touched the cream stick directly to your skin??

    I think the decision to use brush or sponge or fingers is one of personal preference and what you feel gives you better coverage & control.

    Brush can get in to the nooks and cranny's of nose, under the eyes, etc. But so can sponge.

    Brush can be cleaned after immediate use, so can sponge. Brush does not create waste and some good quality sponges are biodegradable.

    I prefer to use a sponge on clients, and a brush on myself. I can use the same sponge later to catch eye shadows, clean mistakes, etc.

    I also feel that a brush may leave brush strokes, whereas a sponge may not. Some feel the other way around.

    This is not giving you a definitive answer, I know, but more options. :0)

    Yeah I think I might get a brush, I'm just so bad about cleaning my brushes. She might not of touched the stick directly to my face, I know that's a no-no, I don't remember exactly. I was just very intrigued about putting on foundation in parts and then spreading it, I've never done that. I want to put your video on my christmas list! Hopefully, I'll get stuff other than just for impending baby. ,r:;

    Congratulations!

    I was in a short film last winter and the MUA also applied parts of foundation to my face (with her fingers though, ew) and then spread with a brush. I will be carrying brush sets & cases in the near future!
