Simplicity Pattern 4377 for Saidi Dresses

Just wondering if anybody has used this pattern to make a Saidi Dress. It looks like it would be perfect. Even the designer is Arab..g.:
Simplicity Patterns - Simplicity 4377 - Simplicity Sewing Patterns for Sleepwear,*Plus - Simplicity Pattern Reviews

It shouldn't be too hard to make the size smaller, just trim a couple inches in right?

I don't sew, but it looks great! It would also make an excellent cover-up if split down the front.

I love her designs, but I'm pretty sure she's not Arab. Muslim, maybe.

Can I just say how happy I am to see people recommending patterns on Bhuz? Already I've found a great skirt option and now this. I wonder if there is anything similar that is in smaller sizes?

I did a quick search and turned up about ten pieces by this designer that I would love to have made. It's so nice to see these curvy, flattering cuts! She really seems to get the shapes right, much more so than most of what's readily available off the rack for larger women.

Thanks for posting this! I also love having lounge-wear, especially to put on after cleaning up from a night of dancing.

I haven't sat down to look through the patterns in a while. I bet JoAnn or Hancock will have Simplicity patterns on sale this weekend (Columbus Day) for $1 or $2.

I just bought this pattern from ebay, total with shipping was just under $8! Can't beat that, not even at JoAnn's.

    Yeah, you're right. She's that famous boxer's daughter (Mohammad Ali), I'm not sure where he's from though. I don't know anything about him, except his name,r:;

He's definitely an American icon. There's lots to read about him, of course, and there's also the film, "Ali", starring Will Smith, that came out in 2001. It's worth it to learn a little about him because he's referred to quite often.

Hancock Fabrics had some great cotton gauze type fabric this summer - must check if there's any left on the sale tables. It would be perfect for some comfy garments using this pattern.

Just taking inches off all around generally won't convert a plus size to an average size. I think this pattern only comes in plus sizes.

Yeah, my concern would be with the sleeves. You'd probably have to modify the underarm area somehow, so that the whole gown wouldn't lift up with you raise your arms up.

Muhammad Ali lives here in Louisville, Kentucky (or may live outside of Louisville now, I'm not sure). We also have a museum dedicated to him in downtown Louisville. A long time ago, before his Parkinson's got really bad, he and his mother used to come to the restaurant where I worked as a waitress. Very nice man.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled program . . .:focus

Cute pattern, and it looks like you could adapt it to make a shalwar/kameez too by making the tunic longer.

Mohammad Ali is probably one of the most famous people in the entire world, in his heyday he was loved by just about everyone around the world. Definitely worth learning more about him.

I have used this pattern and it comes out beautifully as have others of this designers patterns I've made up. Love the fact that they are designed for real women proportions and are roomy and comfy in all the right places! Don't have the pattern package in front of me, but I think probably a size 16 is the smallest it is available in, but the lines are such that it would be easy to size it down.

Mohammed Ali took his name when he converted to Islam. Before that he was Cassius Clay the poet boxer!

Maybe have a hole in the underarm area?
That or you could add a gusset.

My skinny lady friends are real women, too!

I think it's a shame that Ali's patterns don't come in smaller sizes. She cuts for curves, and I was super-curvy back when I was a size 8!
