Simplicity Pattern 2941 Bellydancer skirts (photos added)

I'm back with another question to see if anybody has used this pattern. I bought it, I just haven't cut into it yet. Before doing that I wanted to see if anybody had a good experience making the skirts from this pattern.

Well I found enough fabric in my closet to try this out. If it comes out good, I'll post a picture. I can't start working on it till Omid goes to sleep though.

Ok, so I'm pretty much done with the skirt. I was unfortunately about 10" short of fabric so I wasn't able to make it exactly to the pattern specifications so I altered it a little bit. I made a half circle for the back and a quarter circle for the front. Instead of leaving both sides open or sewing both edges, I just sewed one edge so that there's one slit.
If I had been able to make the full circle this thing would have been much better, but I couldn't wait to get started.

    Please excuse the

I just got that exact same pattern. I was looking for a full length double layer skirt but no luck so far. I guess I could buy it from Dahlal but our dollar dipped again today, so it would be rather pricy.

Shirin - do you have any photos of the completed skirt?

I had that problem one time when using sari fabric. I just use it as an overskirt with other, fuller skirts. That way, more of the underskirts colour shows.

I've never used a pattern for skirts. Grew up watching my ma sew a mil of them. Was also her little helper at times.

She (and now I) just used a meter stick anchored at the corner of folded fabric to make the half circles, two halves for the back and one for the front!

Oh, I should say that before attempting the skirts this way, I did not sew a stitch after grade 9! They're really not hard. If you have any questions, pls jlmk :)

Thanks! - that will be great. I'm not too sure by the photo whether or not it will be full enough.

Oh wow, I need to get that pattern!

I was at a fabric store closeout last weekend and grabbed a bunch of halloween and historical reenactment patterns for 5 bucks each. I also found the Simplicity pattern for tribal bellydancers - got it in lieu of finding anything more appropriate.

I can assure you that its quite full. Even without having the full half circle in front it was much more full than I expected. The only thing thats a little bit (just a little bit) of a pain is that the front and back is a little long, I keep stepping on the hem and I'm standing at 5"8. So I might have to trim or hem it shorter an inch.
Please excuse the lack of glamor, my hanging belly, and other such stuff that is not looking good. My intent is to show the skirt, not myself On the last photo I'm holding it together to show the fullness-remember this is only a quarter panel. I didn't want to show my panties too.

    Shirin,

You're such a sweetie!! Thanks for posting the pics. The skirt look fabulous - you did a great job. I can't wait to try it. I went to the fabric store and bought some material (chiffon) to make a skirt. Since it was on sale for 3.99 per metre from 9.99 per metre, it really is a better deal for me to make it myself.

I guess I will have to shorten quite a bit as I am only 5''2

    Thanks for the compliments.
This was actually just a practice skirt to see if I could do it. I can't believe how easy it was! I'm definitely going to make some more.

Very good job on the skirt! I tried making a circle skirt once and it seemed like a lot of work to me! Maybe if I do it a few times more....;-)
