    ballet slippers

your favorite ballet slippers? (not talking real ballet practice shoes, but street shoes or slippers.)

hoping to find something that has enough slip in the sole to be usable for dance practice, and for just wearing around.

Capizio's "Juliet" leather ballet slipper. Availible at one of the discount dance supply websites.

    Very comfy and fit nicely.

I also like Capezio, but prefer the canvas version over the leather

    Re: ballet slippers

I prefer slippers with a split sole, like this. I find this type has more flexibility than those with a one-piece sole.

I also prefer leather to canvas, because I have wide feet, and I find the soft leather used in ballet slippers has more give to it than canvas.

I had to give up ballet slippers, sadly. The bunching of the pleats under my foot started to irritate me.

It sounds like you were referring more to the shoes that look like ballet slippers that are so popular now. Most of the ones I have seen have had a kind of stiff sole and are a little slickerey.

yes, exactly, I'm looking for actual shoes, *not* dance shoes.

(Though I appreciate all of the dance references, just not what I'm after at the moment.)

I checked out Aldo, they had quite a few, but they were all $50+, and that sorta killed my mood to try anything on...

Ah. Sorry. (Must learn to read.)

I use these ones, but I know that this store imports them from Egypt, so I don't know of other sources. Also, they are all shiny/metallic and/or sequinned, so I'm not sure if that's what you had in mind. They work very well for dancing in, though, and the soles are strong enough for outdoor wear.

I've also tried buying beaded, sequined ones from stores like Claire and Ardene (stores that sell inexpensive accessories aimed at teens and young women). However, the soles are crepe, and they're too sticky to dance in, I find.

Not exactly ballet flats, but I love Khussa shoes. They have soles that can be used to dance in, they're super-comfy (once you break 'em in), and they sparkle!! What more could we ask for? ;)

I got mine from Beach Combers via eBay (more options on their site):

What about the "Chinese style" cotton Mary Janes? They also come in satin, velvet, and sometimes other fabrics.

I have a nice black cotton pair and they're comfy...the sole is thin and made of rubber but not too grippy. I wouldn't want to use them for any sort of dance where I actually needed a really nice point to my foot as the sole won't do that attractively, but the soles are still flexible enough to allow for a demi-pointe easily. And they're cheap. I got mine at Payless I think, but that was a few years ago when they were more in style. Here's one site that has them online though:

I'm rather fond of Skechers' ballet flats. In fact, I loved my first pair so much that I bought two additional pairs in different colors. Some of the Skechers ballet flats look more casual, but others are nice enough to wear to work. I actually wore my black pair during a troupe performance.

    Happy shopping! :)

I just bought some Crocs ballet flats in LEOPARD!!! They are so comfy I might try wearing them for dance workshops when I am on my feet all day long.
