Yellow?
So I think yellow could be a great costume color, but it seems to be tricky to find the right yellow. What is the secret of wearing yellow?
I'm an ash blond with red undertones in my complexion.
I think brunettes with dark hair and eyes look smashing in yellow. Can blondes wear yellow? What about redheads, it seems like they would look good in the right yellow.
Why is yellow sort of a neglected color for costumes?

Re: Yellow?
For example, I think the yellow naked dress on the swap meet pages right now would look good on a blond with my coloring. But maybe you need to have a tan as well, to pull it off?

Re: Yellow?
I think the secret to yellow is finding that is various shades richer than one's skin.

Aha! Victory!
How to Wear Yellow
Whether its subtle lemon, daffodil, gold or honey, there is enough variation in color tones to match all skin types. Yellow radiates the light and really gets you noticed. The color of hot summer days, wear yellow and you can’t help but be cheerful.
* Warm, dark golden yellows like honey or caramel best suit those women with blonde hair, dark eyes, and tawny skin tones. These warm undertones lift the complexion, whilst pale pastels can make skin look sallow.
* Blonde and light brown-haired women with a lighter skin tone can carry off more lemony, golden tones. Warm yellows, but not too dark, will bring out the flecks of gold in hair, and make blue or green eyes sparkle.
* Sunny shades of daffodil or lemon need either a very dark or light skin tone. Many pale skins have a cool blue undertone and therefore the warmth of this shade boosts the complexion. Women with dark features generally look dramatic in yellow, as against their skin, it appears elegant rather than gawdy.

Hope it helps!

Re: Yellow?
Cool, I was kind of thinking along those lines. You just have to find the right yellow for your skin tone. Thanks.
I need a costume in every color, right?

Re: Yellow?
I am part irish and have yellow under tone and freakles. I am natural blond but die it brown. I think it has more to do the skin tone then the hair
yellow looks good on me with either color hair but i agree that the gold or darker yellow is better for yellow under tone skin then the lemon yellow. you can press you finger on the inside of the wrist to see what your under tone is it will show up pinkish or yellow if you are light skinned.

Re: Yellow?
I have yellow undertones in my fish-belly-white skin, with light brown hair I dye red. I had a full-on yellow costume that I just loved.
I think the reason nobody has yellow costumes is because everybody thinks they can't wear yellow. but if you think of it as gold, which it basically is (strong yellow, that is, not neon or pastel), then it's much more appealing.
also, so many people, imo, get all hung up on skin tone and whatnot and judge their costume colors only by what looks good on them in street clothes. I hear people go on about how they love red but it has to be orange red or blue red or tomato red or blah blah blah, and I roll my eyes. stage lights blast out your skin tone so really, anybody can wear just about anything. on stage, red is red.
it's funny - I got my yellow costume super cheap because audrena was having an all yellow costumes for half price sale many years ago. nobody would buy them!

Re: Yellow?
i love yellow! it's my new favorite color to wear. the trick for me is to make sure there's an accent color that helps make the yellow and my skin tone POP. i have a golden rich yellow costume with gold beading and ab crystals that i pair with a jewel toned veil (deep purple, rich yummy magenta, or sometimes tie dye)
i also have a lemon yellow and turquoise 1001 nights- the yellow on it's own wouldn't quite work for my skin tone but with the turquoise makes everything pop!
it's an unexpected color choice that people remember...i wore yellow on saturday and got "omg that has to be the most beautiful costume ever" from one of the servers who's seen a LOT of bd'ers.
elisa, you're so lucky to have gotten in on that sale of audrena's!

Re: Yellow?
Agree with you all!
As a beginner I tended to buy dark blue, hunter green, wine and black costumes-
I was afraid to look fat!
That made me disappear on stage and melt into walls-
Samasem talked me into making and buying bright costumes instead.
I have been afraid of yellow costumes since I´m so pale(NC15 in MAC foundations),but you ladies make me see the error of my ideas now:)
It´s *stage costumes* meant for *stage wear*,not everyday clothes!

Re: Yellow?
I have never met a yellow costume that looks good on me. I have fair skin with pink/peach undertones and coppery red hair. I love orange and have two costumes in different shades that both look good, but yellow always makes me look like death warmed over.

I love my mango-yellow costume:
S.T. Shimi's Photos | Facebook
It has spoiled me for all other yellows. But I do think it's a fun colour, depending on the shade and really pops!

I have blonde hair, tanned skin and wear that shade of yellow and it look great! It's a deep yellow. I think a lemony tone could look good, but this one is better for me.
I bought this costume 5 years ago (a Pharanocs) and I don't think I'll ever get rid of it.
You don't see yellow often, especially on a blone, so it has the surprise / unusual element.

Re: Yellow?
Tanya, that yellow is gorgeous on you! That's not surprising, though, you look gorgeous in everything!
Looking at the yellow costumes makes me feel happy, it really is the color of sunshine, warmth, happiness.
Maybe there's a yellow costume in my future.
