Thread: Isis wing colour help - too many options!

Can anyone help me choose an Isis wing fabric and colour to complement my costume?

I'll have to order my wings custom from Ashye as I'm only 5'1, so I'm really bamboozled by all the options she offers, and I haven't seen enough in real life to know what I want.

I'm 5'2" and I just take the beggars up.

I'd say the world is your oyster with a white costume (and I know the one you mean, without seeing the link), though I suppose that a white costume might look a bit washed out next to a pair of wings in a very strong colour.

What are you going to be using them to dance to - what sort of overall effect are you looking for?

Personally I'm getting a bit bored of seeing white wings and silver wings - seems like everyone's got a pair.

I bought irridescent white for my troupe, with the idea that they'd go with anything. And they do! And they show up brilliantly in darker rooms and against black stage backgrounds. I've been thrilled with the versatility and ethereal quality.

I can see Khadiya's point that they're kind of everywhere. The first wings I ever saw were gold metallic, and they had a liquid quality that I feel the organza ones are missing. So my next choice would be gold or silver metallic lame, whichever compliment the costume best.

Not that I'm a wings expert, but I like it when wings match the costume, so they look more like an extension of it instead of competing with it.

I like Lauren's idea of white iridescent, that sounds really pretty. Silver would be my second choice, to pick up the costume accents.

I think silver or a nice pastel organza would look nice. My first choice would be silver.

While I second (fifth?) the belly dance neutrals, personally with a white costume I tend to like veils, wings, etc to be a really dynamic contrasty colour. deep pink, turquois, green. The other question, though, is what else are you planneing on using the wings with? that can change many things.

I would go with organza for fabric and a pastel color, or pale gold or the opal/pearl color. I use that color a lot. It goes with a lot of costumes.

As striking as a bright color would be, I feel it would distract from your lovely white costume. and the subtle details on it.

I think I might pick either white or silver - maybe I should try to watch them both in action online and make my decision from there. Up close, the costume has silver, white and black jewels, so I might play it safe for my first set by picking one of those colours. I'm not planning to use them yet to perform to a seasoned crowd of dance experts who've seen wings countless times, so I think one of the more common colors will still have the wow factor. I love the pastels and brights too though!
