Thread: Assuit

Hello, very new to this forum, Does anybody have any tips on how to make an assuit skirt? I've got a quite large piece of original antique assuit ( kind of long rectangular shape) and would love to make a skirt from it. It's absolutely beautiful so am a bit nervous to cut it however it doesn't really work as a veil. Have also thought about drapping it over costumes so any tips on that would be appreciated.

assuit would never work as a veil.

if you can avoid cutting it, don't! you may regret it someday.

you can drape it over one shoulder and diagonally across your chest and back. you can hold one short end at your side hip, wrap the piece around you like a hip scarf, tuck or fasten it and let the long tail drape down.

if you do feel comfortable cutting it, you could make a panel skirt out of it.

Assuit is not veil material. I agree about the panel skirt. That would be fabulous. Is it the black and silver? I have a number of pieces I've acquired over the years. My favorite is my blue one. It looks just like one I saw in a Sohair Zaki video.

Yep its black and white. I bought it off Hilary Thacker, she used to have a lot of assuit to sell. Some other gorgeous colours too, I think she had white assuit dyed different colours. The blue you are talking about is really lovely. I just love assuit in any colour!!
