Thread: Famous Costumes

Hello, I know alot of professional dancers sell on their costumes after thay have worn them. I know Delilah does and there are some dancers over here who have been lucky enough to buy costumes from todays famous dancers in Egypt. So does anybody own a costume from a famous performance? I think it must be lovely to know a little about the history of a costume. My first teacher used to perform in an antique bedlah from Egypt which was about 100 years old the condition of it was excellent and the standard of workmanship was increadible!

I used to own a costume that Dina once danced in - naturally, I couldn't fill out the bra enough (lol), so I only wore it a few times and then sold it to a friend. It was made by Sahar Okasha. I like to think I got some good dancing vibes from it ;)

I once owned a costume that belonged to Aziza. I sold it to Kimarhi, and she's since sold it as well. Since I bought it from another bhuzzer who got it from Aziza, I believe it's had 4 or 5 bhuz owners!

I own a dress that Khairiyya Maazin (of the Banat Maazin Ghawazee clan) wore for a performance. I'm quite fond of that dress!

I've never understood the appeal of having a costume that was once owned by a famous dancer. To me, it's just another used costume. I'll buy it if the price is right and the style/design/color work for me. The "fame" factor doesn't weigh into the equation.

I had started a thread long ago about this...I am always looking to collect costumes..I especially want a Soheir Zaki...or Nagwa Fouad.. Fifi Abdo....my idols when I was growing up....it would be fun to have something from them...good vibes!

I currently have an Aziza costume, the brown/olive green Bella from the ad that is running on Bhuz right now. I haven't yet moved the hooks and padded it, but I can tell you it's gonna be one of my new favorites.

I also bought Leila's Evil Eye Assuit costume, but I only wore it once and then resold it.

My yellow Eman that I sold on Bhuz awhile back, I saw what I assume to be a duplicate in a video of Dandash.

Oh I have a Leila one too...skinny B****H...lol!

Ohhh TH...this was a favorite of mine...of yours...bumble bee!!!!! Good memories of the DVD day...

I bought a costume from Orit last weekend, mainly because I fell in love with the design. It's nice to know that she designed it and wore it once during a perfromance, it makes it extra special!

In my case, the costume was exactly what I was looking for in regards to pirce, size, style, etc. But finding out that it had once belonged to Aziza made it even that much more special to me, especially since she is a dancer that inspires me in particular. It was like the cherry on top of the ice cream sundae.

I loooooooove Orit's costumes. Which one? Which one?

it's the zebra/red one that she wore for the show in Barcelona a couple of months ago. You can see some pictures in her gallery on her website!

Really I wanted it because it's so damn pretty and since all the tiny people had owned it before I figured most of the heavy lifting had been done in terms of alterations! And yeah, knowing that Aziza and other Bhuzzers have danced in it was just cherry. Sisterhood of the Travelling Costume!

It would never be the primary reason to drop coin on a costume, esp. if it was priced high because of the fame factor.

TamraHenna - I think the yellow 'bumblebee' actually was Dandash'..

Mekyria - good choice and if you ever decide to sell I'd like to be in line after Queenie

As far as my own famous dancers costumes, I'm the current owner of the yellow Dandash one and I've got a pink mirror costume and a black mini that belonged to Leila.

I used to own one from Nourhan Sharif that came ot me via Nailani from NDC and now Mahira in Chicago has it!
It was a great costume!

That looks so good on you!

I owned Leila of Cairo's black mini, but sold it to Lili Gamal -- I think she has resold it since! She had a picture posted here on Bhuz wearing it with sunglasses....... Currently, I have a lipstick red chiffon costume with white flowers all over it that was Raqia Hassan's own costume.....bought it at a workshop, it's really cute.
