Dye Help
Hi ladies, Im trying to do kind of a peacock inspired tie dyed skirt using a white skirt tiered skirt i bought years ago. I dyed the skirt royal blue tonight and unfortunately the thread remained white. What to do, seems fairly obvious to me, should I continue with the project or abandon ship?

Re: Dye Help
Hi,
Can you cover the thread with sequin trim (or other trim)?
I don't know if you use a different type/brand of dye will help.
(I ran into the same problem, nothing worked to color the dye resistant thread).
I'd continue the project, but improvise from your original idea.
:-)

Re: Dye Help
Sadly, most cotton clothing is sewn with at least 50% polyester thread. Unless a clothing seller specifically says "sewn with cotton thread" you can assume the thread probably won't take the dye. :-(
How bad does it look from a distance?

Re: Dye Help
Consider stitching beside the white thread with a cotton thread then remove the white thread. Or use a decorative stitch and cover the white thread with a cotton thread. Either one will eliminate ribbons or sequins. The cotton thread will absorb dye.

Re: Dye Help
A friend applied a thin layer of glitter paint over the white threads on a skirt she dyed and totally reworked. She failed to notice the white threads until after she had stitched feathers, strands of ribbons, loops of beads and other embellishments to the skirt. She didn't want to remove everything to cover the stitches so she used a tiny brush and applied glitter paint to lightly cover the white thread. The skirt could not be washed with all her additions so no worry about the glitter paint washing away. She also added random glitter throughout the body of the skirt so it appeared cohesive. The end-result appeared to be more of a sheer metallic ribbon covering the stitches. Her goal was an over-the-top embellished look and it was awesome.

Re: Dye Help
Im re thinking adding the two other colors now to be honest. It turned out to be such a light blue and now Im thinking about just dying it a dark purple to be done with it.
Also so I can continue to wear it even when Im not dancing.
