    Sparkly costumes as evening wear?

A number of Tribal belly dance costume pieces can be worn in real-life too. The cholis, the multi-tiered skirts, the Melodia pants - all those can do double duty as either dance costumes or real-life garb depending on what you wear them with. (I wear Melodias in real life.)

But how many of us wear our beads-and-sequins costumes in real life? I've been guilty of wearing a couple of my dance costumes to the opera!

I have a purple Sim Moda Evi dress that I've been guilty of wearing to the opera! It doesn't have any particular decoration at the hips, so I figured I could get away with it. This is what that dress looks like:

I've been known to wear my tulle bi telli (ie, assuit) dress with a full-length black slip under it to the opera.

Who else uses your sparkly dresses for evening wear?

I don't have anything that fancy, and I never really go anywhere fancy, but that dress is beautiful Shira! I can definitely see it working as an opera gown.

I wear my Melodias on days I want to be just a little funkier - even to work. And I work in a law office.

i wore an assuit split front robe over a plain black dress to a wedding once. i was the most comfortable one there :)

i think a lot of our sparklies are just not made for sit-down affairs

I wear a pair of belly dance pants - low rise palazzo pants - to work in the summer with a pretty tunic - it looks very chic and no one would ever guess I can go right to practice!

I don't tend to have anywhere to go that would involve getting that dressed up. I don't tend to get to either of the (I believe two) black tie affairs that are held in town. Events that are the next step down from those tend to have people attend from being relatively dressed up (nice, not fancy) to blue jeans. Carbondale is a rather relaxed town (old hippy enclave) with a very interesting mix of cultures for being a small town (18,000). I do have an evening gown or two, but those usually only get used for dance events (like when I have to emcee). ..l;,

No advice or experience here but I'll be subscribing to this thread.

Hubby decided that next year we'll test our luck and attend the (regional) Emmys to see if he'll still win. (He's never won in a year we've attended. Only when we don't.) Of course this whole plan is contingent on being nominated but it's pretty certain that he'll be up for at least one. (This year he was nominated for seven.)

I'd love to buy a dress that I could use for dancing after that night is over.
