Thread: How Do You Organize Your Jewelry?

Ok, Im still looking for a good way to organize my necklaces, earrings and bracelets. I know I have treasures at the bottom of that pile somewhere! ..l;,

I'd love to have the answer to that as well! I have a large black makeup box that I keep my necklaces and larger earrings in. It has two flip out drawers and that's wear the earrings go. I keep my bracelets in a basket and my bangles in a bag. Not very organized!

get one of those pretty earring or jewelry trees (icing sells them) they look pretty on display:)

I have a wooden jewelry armoire that I love, but I don't have that much to keep track of.

My mother collects loads of jewelry, and some of her pieces are HUGE. She bought stackable drawers from the hardware store (meant for nails, screws, fasteners of all kinds). They have see-through drawers in a variety of sizes, and she just keeps buying more units and adding them to her 'jewelry zoo.'

It depends. For my daily jewelry i have lots of little boxes on my dresser. And one oor two big ones. There is no logic as to why I group certain pieces together, but they have just 'fallen' into those particular clusters. it seems to work as I rarely have to scramble looking for something.

For gig jewelry, I try to keep all sets together in their own packages and then keep all the packages in one box. There are a few pieces which don't fall under these guidelines, but not many. And even those are kept in their own bags in the box.

I have my bangles on one of those things for kitchen rolls. then some of my necklaces are on a mug holder. Most of my earrings are pinned to a black velvet filled picture frame.

Now what to do with the rest SIGH!!!

I have most of my big hook style earrings hanging off the edge of a margarita glass. It seems to work pretty well for big, huge gig earrings. I have found that the earring trees are too small for some of the stuff I wear but work great for my smaller stuff.

I love the bangle idea!

That tackle box o' jewels is great too Lauren. I bet I could get lost in there for hours.

My hubby is a jewelry designer, so I have a lot of stuff -- not that I'm complaining! I have two jewelry armoires, another full-size dresser that's full, plus other stashes here and there. We also have an extensive Bedouin jewelry collection that's hanging on our living room walls. And then there are all my rhinestones for dance... still trying to organize them. This house is overflowing with jewelry!

First, I keep my precious jewelry separate from my costume jewelry.

Then I separate everything into catagories.

Gold on one side Silver on the other.

Colored beaded necklaces are in another drawer/box.

My bangles are in a metal box, with lots of silica packets (they still tarnish, but not as quick).
I've heard white chalk helps to, but I haven't tried it.

Jewelry that might tarnish, I keep sealed in a ziplock bag. I also wipe them down, after wearing them, before putting them back in the plastic ziploc bag.

Some jewelry that tangles easily like multi strands of pearls on invisible line, I will thread half of it through a small cardboard tube, or keep hanging inside my jewelry armoire.

I love the earrings hanging on the martini glass idea, but I can't do that here.
My cat will steal the sparkly items and hide them (this also includes keys).

I wear it on my hands, arms and ears, and just never take it off.

Apart from that jewellery, it's sort of scattered - I have a stand thingy that most of my costume-type earrings live on, and other bits are in various glass bowls and drawers. I really like those bag/box things you can get with lots of little drawers and parts that open up, and often look at them longingly. But then I think to myself, you know what, if someone robbed my house, they could just pick that up and every one of my jewellery items would be gone like THAT.

I keep costume jewelry in plastic baggies, separated by set or item, stacked in a draw. That way I can just rifle through to find what I want and throw it straight into my dance bag.

I have one of those things that hang over the door - people usually use them for shoes. Instead of putting shoes in the pockets, I use it as a jewelry organizer and each pocket holds a different category of jewelry, for instance, one for hoop earrings, one for my fancier earrings, one for danglies, one for odd shapes, one for bangle bracelets, one for stretchy bracelets, etc.

My necklaces are all draped over a fancy hanger in my closet.

My wonderful husband bought me a jewelry armoire a few years ago...I probably have 75+ rings alone and a few dozen necklaces...and don't even get me started on the earrings and bracelets...this armoire has hooks for necklaces (rightside silver, left size gold), huge deep drawers for belts, cuff bracelets, a sectioned draw for earrings...massive ring section...without it...I'd be burried under mounds of metal...

I just keep my stuff in random jewelry boxes, although IKEA has one that I really want. Too bad it is $400...

At my old apt I used ribbons, scarves and fancy hooks to hang jewelry from. I would tack it into the wall and drape, clip or poke stuff into it. It can look like art if you don't mind putting holes in your wall.

I do exactly the same as Nanda with my dance jewelry. Pieces or sets in sandwich or snack bags, all together in a drawer. I grab the things I need, still in their baggies, and put them in my make-up case. The baggies keep bright metals from oxidizing and I actually try to maximize this by closing them almost all the way, then sucking the air out before closing completely.

Help me, mine is always a big mess. Thanks for ideas. I do have a framed screen someone gave me that is great for hanging dangling earrings. Could probably use a wall of screen!

I use a tie rack. Great for necklaces and rings, but the non-corded bracelets get in the way.

I love the idea of keeping stuff that oxidizes in zip-lock bags. I should start doing that!

Mmmm, good thread. Samira, thanks for starting it! I've been struggling with this, and there are some good ideas here that I'm going to steal!

If I have a particular necklace or pair of earrings that I use only with a particular dance costume, I'll put it into a ziplock back and store it with the coordinating costume.

If it's a jewelry piece that I use with a variety of costumes, well, let's just say this thread will help me make sense of the chaos.

I use Glad containers, you know, with the clear blue lids?. I organize by what goes together or is similar. They are protected because the containers are hard, they are see through, so I can see what is there. And then I can stack them on the shelf in my costume closet.

The tall armoire with drawers and doors - a few years ago I broke down and bought one of the tall jewelry armoires, similar to the Idea model posted by Andalee. Mine has doors on each side you open with hooks to hang chains, so nothing gets tangled and you can see it at a glance - a feature I LOVE! You might still want to keep special costume-related sets together (maybe in baggies like Shira does), but I highly recommend buying one of these if you can find a place for it. You get a lot more use out of your jewelry when it's easier to see what you've got. For those into *sparklies,* you will find this makes your non-dance accessorizing much more efficient, too. JC Penney stocks a lot of models and periodically features them on sale for 20% off. I keep mine in a walk-in closet since the most utilitarian model didn't match my furniture, but I am SO happy I finally made this investment (like most folks, I hesitate to spend $$ on storage-related items, then find they are usually worth it).

My friend just read this thread over my shoulder and told me to tell you all that we have "rich girl problems" ..l;,

This is the term she uses to keep me in line when I am fretting over which purse to carry or which shoes to wear. It also works well when deciding where to eat. Even if its costume jewelry she is right.

My wife and I share a medium sized jewelry armoire. This has gotta change - I could use the whole darn thing for my earrings alone!

I also like the baggies because with all the beaded and dangly jewelry we tend to have, bits fall off all the time, and that way it keeps it together.

I really liked having all my pretties on display in a nice glass bowl or hanging up etc I just got sick of scraping around looking for the earring hook that slipped out or the beads from a broken bracelet, I could never find them again to fix it.

A few years ago I bought a bunch of these: Sterilite - Storage They're very inexpensive at places like Target and Walmart. I cut pieces of felt for the bottom of each drawer to keep the jewelry from sliding around. My husband and I ended up buying more of them, in various sizes, for organizing lots of stuff around the house.

I use these for all my earrings:
