Thread: more on dancewear, tell me about lyrical skirts

Does anyone dance any other forms of dance like modern dance or any form that necessitates wearing a lyrical skirt? I can attach an image for reference if you need..

I did a search online and it appears a lot of lyrical skirts are made from chiffon or georgette or another material.

For those who wear them for dance,what are your thoughts about lyrical skirts made in, yup you guessed it..silk. Do you think a lighter weight silk would be nice, or what are your thoughts on a heavier but really pretty charmeuse silk?

I had a dance troupe contact me about custom making some lyrical skirts and I don't know enough about them to know where to start, the pattern looks pretty easy for a seamstress (how many yards of fabric are we looking at) but I have no idea if silk would be ideal for these purposes?

Litugical/worship dance uses lyrical skirts. To me, they seem just like a normal circle skirt, but are usually made from nylon fabric.

When the studio I was teaching at made me order student costumes from the regular dance catalog (tap/jazz/modern/etc.), I got my students the lyrical skirts from the worship dance section. The just wore them more at hip level, as the liturgical dancers seem to wear them at bully button level.

I've worn lyrical skirts for liturgical dance. The big difference, like Laura mentioned, is the fabric and the waistline, which is designed to sit at the waist. They're just circle skirts, maybe not quite a full circle. Tend to have a very flat, no-roll waistband.

I think with lyrical attire opacity is the key...they make those babies out of fabic Superman couldn't see through.
