Monetary Decision to Make
I only have so much money to spare, do I get a costume piece or take two workshop classes?
In some ways I think the costume piece is more important cause I can use that over and over and over. Not only that but its gorgeous, and truly one of a kind!
On the other hand, the workshop classes could provide instruction that is priceless. Or not.

Workshop. Workshop. Workshop.
You can make a costume.

Re: Monetary Decision to Make
which will serve you better at this point in your dance career?
is it a rare and esteemed instructor?
will they be back around any time soon?
is it a once in a life time costume opportunity? will you still love it in 5 years and cherish it forever?
will it last as long as knowledge gained from a master instructor?

Re: Monetary Decision to Make
okay, self described costume addict here, but. . .
If this is a workshop which will help to bring a different perspective and support your growth in dance, I would take the workshop. I have passed up many a costume which has screamed "TAHIRA!!!!!! YOU MUST TAKE ME HOME! YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A CHANCE TO GET ANOTHER COSTUME LIKE ME AGAIN!!!!! WE WERE MEANT TO BE TOGETHER!!!!!" in order to support myself and my dancing in a better way. Both literally and figuratively. And the costume lied. I generally found them again or something which was better for me in the long run.
So, if you go by Sabrinas list and decide that the workshop / instructor is going to be really beneficial to your dancing, than remember that while you may not be able to find that particular costume again, something better for you will come around!

Re: Monetary Decision to Make
The ironic part for me is that most of my upper end costumes I see as investments. Part of their lure is the fact that they have a certain amount of monetary value which can be recouped if necessary. It's the individual 'special' costumes, vintage madness costumes which you will have to pry out of my cold, dead hands! And most of those have been very inexpensive! as in the average of $75 each!

Depends on the workshop, right? How awesome is this instructor and will you have the chance to work with him/her up close & personal again?
On the other side, is this THE costume or do you think you could settle for a lower $$$ version, however that may happen?

Re: Monetary Decision to Make
Thanks ladies, I have made a decision: neither lol I work at a fabric store and found out next weekend (one day only) we're getting these commercial grade Singer sewing/serging machines. So Im doing that instead!
Just recently I had started to think about getting a serger and Im taking this as a sign :)
Hopefully my costume piece will wait for me, and the instructors will be bewitched by the city and return soon.
