Can anyone review american apparel metallic bike shorts?

    Hi

On another thread someone mentioned american apparel for bike shorts and that they do metallic SHINY:

Shiny Work Out Short - Shorts - American Apparel Online Store UK

Does anyone own a pair of these?

How durable is the shiny - would it stand up to dancing or would it peel off as soon as you look at them?

How low waisted are they - would they go comfotably under a costume?

How generous is the waist band? I tend to have a problem with e.g. Danskin that the waist is a bit unforgiving - that the rest fits but the waist gives muffin top, if I get the waist big enough the rest is baggy.

    Thanks

    Z

    The website says:

"This garment can dull or scratch with repeated wearing; handle with care For best results wash delicate and hang dry"

Here's a review: "My silver work out shorts were awesome at first, but lost all shine after one washing"

And many reviewers warned of the danger of the dreaded camel toe (which I only learned about here on Bhuz...sheltered life that I lead.)

So: wear a heavy-duty thong, wash extremely gently? Or order a pair of shorts from L. Rose...

Well I'm not worried about camel toe as they are for going UNDER a costume! Hopefully only the legs will ever be seen.

    Anyone actually own them?!

I tried the metallic hot pants on once at an AA store. Like all American Apparel items, they run incredibly small...I suggest going up at least two sizes. I remember them being pretty low-waisted and definitely thinking they would work under a costume, and the shiny seemed durable to me (but that is not based on experience). Hope this helps a smidge! They looked pretty cool.

As an aside, I like supporting a non-sweatshop US made apparel company and I think from a labor perspective AA is a good business model (though I have heard tales of hardore union-busting tactics they implement from organizer friends in LA, where AA is based). They have good wholesale prices for basics to get to screenprinters, which is great. But I dislike American Apparel for their blatantly sexist (without even being that interesting!) advertising and their unquestionably misogynistic owner. Just my opinions. :)

    What she said.

I own the copper metallic bikini w/ hot pants. Shorts are great for under a costume, so camel toe and if they wear out, no biggie since they are under a costume. They are meant to be worn close fitting so that is why I think they are totally appropriate for the purpose. Great colors, too. I'm always tempted to buy more for the "just in case".

i have the silver lame ones and wash them in the sink and hang them to dry and they're fine. My only peeve with any shorts is that they roll up on the inside of my thigh- but that's because i have thunder thighs that touch.
