What do you mean by a "peasant shirt"? Do you have a photo of what you have in mind being worn by someone else?

    Re: Crop Peasant Shirt Pattern?

All the pattern companies have peasant shirt patterns with a variety of sleeve options. Right now tunic lengths are popular, but you can find some that have a cropped option. But you can shorten the length and add elastic at the bottom.

Word of warning on cropped tops, add a gusset tot he underarm to avoid having the shirt pull up when you raise your arms. It is relatively easy to add a triangular shaped piece of fabric. If you sew the sleeve intot he bodice before finishing the side seams and sleeve seam, then you can pin the gusset in, stitch side up the the point of the gusset and stich sleeve seam to the point on the other end.

I've also seen some cholis/ ghawazee coats with openings in the underarms instead of gussets, which could be easier. Like this:
Mode Mystique - Panel Cotton Choli

The long sleeved cholis I have are quite fitted, and never pulled up when dancing, so I'm not sure how necessary it is-- especially if the sleeves are poufy.
