Thread: dimensions of silk used for silk fans

it's just silly that i dont already own a pair of these..does anyone know the dimensions of the silk used for the fans

and..can you describe or show pics of how the silk is attached to the staves? I found a cheap source for bamboo fans right here in town so wanna make a pair since I just bought Mahsati-Janan's fan vid :)

I believe it is usually 36" wide.

1 1/4 to 1 1/2yd long which includes a section to fold over or use to cover the staves on both sides.

The problem I ran into is that the staves that were sold without a length of silk already attached were much stiffer than the more flexible staves that I have seen.

Both are usable though, just depends on what you want.

ahhhh folded over staves..thank you! i have yet to see a pair up close so was guessing..to fold it over both sides does that make it so they cant open and close? doesn't matter to me, i just wanted a pair to play with so when the dvd arrived i'd have something to wave around:)

i wonder if universal curio is still on ebay? they were selling some cheapies, wonder if i can remove the silk and attach my own? will go see and report back

the more flexi bamboo staves snap open and closed quickly and you can have the silk on both sides, but the other ones are stiffer, and stained a darker shade.
They are more for using just with keeping them open. I have trouble opening and closing them in a performance, better to just leave them alone. (just my experience)

how large are your bamboo fans do you know? this shop (where i buy the coconuts) have them in two sizes so of course i got both

i dunno at the moment, but i can find them tomorrow and measure and post here.

they arent very big........
