"What are you working on?" - November

Well, October saw me finish the indigo velvet and chiffon for my client (thumbnail below) and get almost through the embellishment of the burgundy set I'm working on for myself (thumbnail below).

Still under the needle is the set for my daughter in teal and blue... in planning are some floaty tops for my troupe sisters and an acid green/royal combination for myself. And there's a "madonna blue" set in the corner that needs the bra covered before I can start adding pearl and crystals.

Really, I just need to quit my day job! This is much, much more fun. Even if I do have to fight my "helper" for the pieces I'm working on!

I am n the process of rebeading my dance partners turquoise Doyne Allen bedlah. The one which she is stealing my LRose skirt to wear with it. Something seems to be wrong with that statement. . .

Anyway, I am replacing all the dental floss with colour appropriate button hole thread and dealing with the straps, hooks, eyes, etc. Ah the things I do when I am baby sitting!

It's a beautiful set, Ozma. Even without a dancer in it. I'm looking forward to seeing shots of it in action.

How long does it take you to make a bedlah, btw? It seems you have something wonderful to post very frequently - which would imply that you work very quickly on these things.

Depends on the set. I usually have multiple going on. Something simple with premade trims layered...a few weeks, tops. Super bead jobs? a few months.

I'm making progress on my peacock costume:

At teh start of this month:

I've started the feathers, the unjeweled simple shapes will be mixed in with the fancy ones...and they will eventually have stalks. the feathers will wrap around the body.

P.S. Anyone want to tell me why I waited so long to use a bead spinner?

That Peacock costume is great Ozma. Do you have a trumpet skirt pattern or did you adapt from a pattern? I love the peacock eye beading!

Would love more info on these bead spinners - how they work - do they really save time?

The link posted will help more, but I just spin gently with my left hand, the beads scurry up my needle, I knock off what I don't need, and go. It takes less futzing than stringing 6 at a time 6 at a time 6 at a time.

You do need to be working with enough beads though, for small jobs it won't help.

I'm making a ruby red skirt and sleeves with pink godets to go with a new ruby and pink Hanan bedlah.I had lots of problems getting fabric just the right colours to go with it.Especially as its not really a usual colour combination. Will post the pictures when I'm done.

Ozma!!! Bead stringer!!!??? Could this be the answer I am looking for? How hard is it to use? I thought it was for really big projects or stores that need to put loose beads on strings. Will it really help me if I am only using 6 at a time? This could be a godsend!

    Thats what I was thinking!

Ozma - is the above link to a bead stringer the same style that you are using?

Yes. I am using a cheap plastic one from Cartwrights....and I am using it for 6-8ish beads at a time....and now I want to buy a couple more (so I can keep 3 at a time loaded up.

Here is a costume I am finishing up, (talk about the ultimate in procrastination, I started it like 4 years ago!) but the good news is that I am a better designer now and I am happy with how it is turning out!

It is a gorgeous mint-y seafoam color with pearls and aqua beads.

Also, I am making jewelry, my family opened a shabby chic type of shop in my hometown and I am selling some jewelry there.

Here are some hand-knotted pearls on silk cord.

I have lots of color combos, Bohemian Pearls, Sweetheart Pearls, Classy Pearls, to name a few.

I watched the vids. This seems to be best for when you have loose beads. I only work with pre-strung beads so it might not be applicable for me because I never take my beads off the string. But....loose beads are cheaper right?
