what skirt to go w/this egyptian bedlah?

i've been debating selling it b/c it was my first prof. 2 piece set and figured if i got the perfect skirt it would have more of a chance of me wearing it and then i wouldn't have to part w/it :)

the skirt in the pic is not even mine (borrowed from a friend) and i just wore it b/c that's the closest thing to red i had at the moment.

(if the link doesn't work, it's the red & gold bedlah in my gallery)
sorry for the crappy photo, was trying to show it to the previous owner (amarise, a fellow bhuzzer :) )

You could use a red chiffon skirt. Someone had posted one on the Swap pages with the fishing line hem a couple of days ago. Or what about a gold or red L Rose trumpet skirt? I have a holographic gold one and it's gorgeous.

I posted the red chiffon skirt! It would definately be a good option for this bedlah!

oh and since i have my heart set on keeping this, i was thinking of something a bit fancier than a plain red chiffon skirt...maybe w/some gold detailing? any ideas?

How are you at sewing? I'm thinking a red straight skirt made of velvet could be easy to make and inexpensive. Or, you could make a red georgette circle skirt - for that, see instructions on my web site at Belly Dancing: Making A Circle Skirt

Regardless of whether you make or buy the skirt, and regardless of whether you go for a straight skirt or a circle skirt, you could decorate it yourself with this sequin/bead design: Making Belly Dance Costumes: Turkish Edging

I need to modify the article to say that this technique is also used in Egyptian costumes. Although you can use it for edging as I described in that article, it's also possible to use it to create designs of flowers or anything else. For example, if you go to this page of my web site Shira's Belly Dancing Photo Gallery: Single Veil and scroll down to the royal blue bedleh with the sky blue circle skirt, you'll see that the beading/sequin technique at my above link was used to create the blue-and-silver sequin flowers around the hem. The blue skirt in these photos was made in Egypt.

    I hope this helps!

Got your question and answered it!!

Shira's website definately has some fabulous info!! Thanks Shira for helping ALL of us!
Sewing A chiffon circle skirt is not for the faint of heart but A strait skirt is definately do-able for even a novice sewer! Doing the beadwork youself on the edges is very gratifying! That's how I got hooked! Anytime I'm sitting...i'm Beading!

White, orange, black, or gold might also work. Although orange and gold can vary a lot, I think if you got the right color they could look great.

Take your belt shopping with you. Pull the bolts out that you're interested in and unroll the fabric a bit and then lay the bolt on top of the counter with the belt on top of it. Be sure and check it in day light too and stand several feet away from it so you can get a good feel for the impact of it! All of my favorite bedlahs have been shopping with me..g.:

Yes I second this advice. Fabric choice makes or breaks an outfit so you need to see fabric and bedlah together.
I'm doing plain skirts with patterned godets at the moment in a loose fishtail style and sleeves to match.Heres an example. The skirt is lycra and the godets and sleeve trims are patterned bodystocking which unlike chiffon does not need hemming.

Great skirt, Candi, I loved the leopard and rainbow costume you wore at the weekend too -utterly fabulous.

Nice to meet you as well by the way, and I enjoyed your lovely dancing.

Candi, your fabric choices and design for that outfit are fantastic! That ensemble looks so good! The color and design in the patterned godets really brings out the beading in the bedlah.

I would do a red velvet trumpet skirt with a gold and red paillette beaded hemline and matching gauntlets. Maybe with some fringeys on the skirt itselt to match the bedlah.
