Bra Strap Slippage - costume or other! never again
Okay, has everyone seen this product? I'm kicking myself for not coming out with this idea we all have had, right?
I'm sure these little disks can be decorated with fabric, sequins and rhinestones for costumes!

That's brilliant!
I think I'll buy some as soon as they hit the Walgreen's 'as seen on tv' shelf.

I'm not sure how well these would work on a costume bra. In order to get the back to lay right, these disks would require straps that have some stretch, and I was always told that was a no-no for dancers. (Rigid! Straps! On! Bra!) I'm also concerned that the thickness of decorated straps would sort of defeat the purpose of the disk since it is designed for regular, flat bra straps, and it might not be able to accommodate any decorations with the same hold. Of course, if you're into the current, barely-decorated style of some costumes, this might not be an issue for you.
I just use a little double-stick costuming tape (AKA "boob tape") to make sure my bra straps don't slip off my shoulders when I'm performing. You can get it in the lingerie department of discount stores and at some fabric stores (usually near where they sell shoulder pads). I haven't had a problem with it leaving residue on a costume, but I'm careful to keep it away from the backs of the overlapping edge sequins.

I was think more along the lines of...no more straps showing under my exercise bras when I change to teach! I hate that! I double bag my puppies.

Oh, wow! Are those things still around?? I remember my mom had them when I was growing up back in the 50's. They were made of thin metal, same as the clips on the bras, not plastic. They were used to hold the strap of a full length slip -- yes, a slip! similar to a camisole, only longer (she says with tongue in cheek) --to the bra strap so everything stayed in place. I remember her struggling to get them secured and placed more toward the back so they wouldn't show under the sheer blouses the women all wore (hence the need for a pretty slip to cover the bra).

My daughter just bought a bra at Victoria's Secret that has a built-in little clip on the back straps to do the very same thing so she can wear it with both regular tank tops and racer backs. I guess the rage of showing your bra straps is finally passe'.

Re: Bra Strap Slippage - costume or other! never again
I have actually seen dancers do this. They were using what looked more like a broach or fancy pin tho. Now, I suspect that the reason they did this was that the straps on their costumes were too long.
Those are really cool tho. My mama birthed me wrong and I have one shoulder that is kinda slumpy so bra straps on that side are constantly falling off my shoulder. Good idea, why oh why didn't I come up with it?

I have used a color-coordinated safety pin to accomplish this effect.

Convertible bras for everyday. Thats the ticket. I cross straps over in the back to prevent them from slipping and give a little more lift.

For us Europeans that do not have Victoria´s secret on every corner I must say that I found similar in Next, I bought some bras there that have a hook on one strap that hooks to the other. I use them when teaching and practicing. They add enough support for dancing, but not like sport bras. This way i can wear pretty tops for practice and teachingMy daughter just bought a bra at Victoria's Secret that has a built-in little clip on the back straps to do the very same thing so she can wear it with both regular tank tops and racer backs. As for the strap perfect i would like to try them. I like the fact of being able to move them up and down to fit my clothes.
Has anyone tried them?

My, ahem, custom designer (Shadia of Boston - worth the trip from anywhere) is making two costumes for me with that strap configuration, and it's the BEST:
- it's as flattering to the shoulders as a halter, but with no neck strain
- gives more freedom of motion to the shoulders than regular shoulder straps
- it's easier to get into than a cross-back
