Re: "Professional" vs "Beginner" Costumes
I'm going to say it's in the eye of the beholder.
I can think of several well-known, famous, professional dancers' costumes looking, shall we say, less-than-professional.

There's an article on my web site about this topic: What Makes a Professional Costume?

Re: "Professional" vs "Beginner" Costumes
I was at an Ansuya workshop which she performed at after. No stage, just a studio room with folding chairs put out for the audience, so we were right up close to her. Her costume was shedding coins in her act, and I imagine she's got pretty much top of the line costumes. I think they all shed. Maybe not immediately after you get them, but they do.
