Thread: What do you wear for New Years?

So I always feel like I have to have something different and special for New Years parties and clubs. I also feel like there are certain colors that were just more New Year's: red, black, silver. Like can you really wear a blue or a purple costume?

SO What do you wear? Do you have a special costume set aside that you mostly wear New Year's or is it whatever you feel that night?

(See right now I am *fighting* the urge to buy a special new silver costume -don't have one yet - which is ridiculous since i just bought 3 new costumes this year when I was in Turkey! Help me fight the monster and talk some sense into me lol.)

I haven't performed on New's Year's before so I don't know if I'm much help. But I would think the color wouldn't really matter much, but it should be a real stunner. Lots of bling. Something that stands out. Hope that helps. :-)

hmm, last new years I think I wore gold for one show and turquoise for the second. but it's true that to ring in a new year, you just can't beat black dripping with crystals

I think I wore red, black & silver--ha ha ha, so exactly what you wrote here!!

Since they say red underwear on New Years is supposed to bring a lucky year, I figured a whole costume couldn't hurt. ;)

last year i wore a fuschia costume.

this year i'm thinking either the silver/white hannan i just bought from april OR my black labyrinth which is, dripped in crystals and beadwork (to quote lotus).

i say that you can wear whatever costume you like as long as it's blingy, secure/fits proper, and is able to hold LOTS of $$$ tips $$$ heheh

Sleeves, I tell you, sleeves! It's like having two wallets on your arms for people to insert money. And a waiststrap is as good as a cash-mahine in reverse.

hehe it's true!

i also make sure that my shoulder/halter straps and secure as people like to tuck $ in there as well.

side note: once i had a lovely couple tip me in change...they put $6 in loonies and toonies (cdn $2 coin) into my belt and it actually stayed!

Not dance clothes, but I once wore an outfit to a NYE party that consisted of a navy blue silk skirt with a waistband embellished with silver sequins and silver and clear glass beads, and a navy blue velvet tank top with silver moons and stars on it. I daydream about having a costume like that someday, navy blue with silver and crystal, including some star shapes, and I'd love to wear something like that while dancing on NYE.

Not dance clothes either, but I'm hoping to wear (if I end up being out and about for New Years Eve) a longsleeve top that's totally paved with beads and sequins, hopefully with some nice slim pants in black or a black skirt... depends on how cold it is!

I bought the top at Dillards after Christmas one year and it's been hanging in my closet with all my vintage stuff. If I keep eating right and working out (90 classes/DVDs in 90 days), I'm confident I will get there.

Just not sure about the shoes. It always comes down to how my hoof is doing, there on the left side.

Hi Nadira. I always had a special costume made for NYE. I think it's important to have something different with lots of bling if you are performing on NYE in a club you normally work at. Usually the same patrons that come on a Saturday night will be the same ones that come on NYE. You want to give them something special.

I don't think color matters at all.

I think if you've got a show-stopper in the closet, NYE is the best time to break it out!

To places with regulars, I wear something they haven't seen before. Other places, just something with extra bling.

Well...uh...I would...but I did some damage over there today (I live nearby). She's now carrying Pharaonics. *sigh*

:Aembarassed: I've never had the chance to try on so many Pharaonics at once. I put two on hold - a lilac and green crepe georgette Harem (2008) costume which really surprised me how cute it was... and a costume that I don't see anywhere. It's called Mystique, I think and it's in eggplant and fuschia (full skirt bedleh costume).
This wouldn't be so bad- except just this week I got from Dahlal a special order Pharaonics- a fuschia with purple Sultana (OMG! AMAZING) and from the bellydance store a black, green and rhinestone costume.

There is custom make Sahar I own, black and dripping in rhinestones. I only wear it for special occasions. Wore it last year on NYE and im planning on doing the same this year. I will try to post a pic, it is outstanding. I use white see through and solid black isis wings layered with it.

I've never heard this before~ at least now I know what I'll be wearing UNDER my clothing...

Depending on the gig I tend to play up the head gear and even opt for a tiara or flowers...something extra festive.
