Thread: What to wear to college gig (silly dilema)

So, I have a teaching gig at UNC Chapel Hill (Go Heels!) and I was going to wear my crushed velvet crop top with a matching skirt and a hip scarf. Really simple, but nicer than my usual class attire.

When I told my boyfriend about it, he asked me what I would wear and then he said "Whatever you wear, it better not be Duke blue."

Whoops! The outfit in question, is indeed royal blue! .w.: What do you think? Should I wear it? Or should I really try something else? LOL! What a silly dilema!

Ha! I don't have an answer for you, but I will tell you this: when I interviewed for a PhD program at Duke, the head of the program told me that he and all the PhD students would spend the night in line waiting for tickets to big games.

That sort of interest in sports is completely foreign to me. :)

Most of your students will probably be female. Some will be interested in sports but during class they will most likely be focused on how you move and your lovely outfit, not school colors. If you were meeting the sports director it would be different.

I think that wearing blue would be like waving a red flag in front of a bull. Personally, I love royal blue. But I think I have to agree with your boyfriend. Some people take their sports very, very seriously.

You could always include a reference to this color-coincidence in your introduction and joke about it, could for instance be something - "hey, maybe somebody should tell the Duke coach to bring some bellydancers on the field."

I wouldn't wear Royal Blue. I teach at Clemson University and had the same thoughts about what to wear to class. I went to the local shops and bought some Clemson T-shirts and paired them with my purple Melos. The girls *loved* it!

Hmm... I teach 2 nights a week at Virginia Tech and have never thought about what colors I wear when I teach!
