Re: Pattern for stretchy "Saidi" dress?
when I made a dress with 4 way stretch fabric - from Spandex World - I started with a t-shirt/knit top fabric and added on the length. I thought it was better to use a pattern designed for knit fabric vs using a caftan or similar pattern.

Re: Pattern for stretchy "Saidi" dress?
Zana - we ran out of the fabric when it came time for my dress so I had to call the store in NYC & get it sent out. Of course it took forever to get here so I made my dress the day of the show .w.: .w.: .w.:

Re: Pattern for stretchy "Saidi" dress?
I forgot to mention the shop's name - it's Hamed fabrics. They dont have a website & they dont mail fabric (unless it's 25 yds or more on the cut)
Sooooooo, you would need to have someone go there to pick it up for you & mail it out... The good news is there is a post office not too far from there on 38th St

Re: Pattern for stretchy "Saidi" dress?
I luuuuv these, I wanted to make one as Hanan's for me and then, my troup ordered dresses from Yasser this one on my bhuz ID pic and I fell in love with the collar and finally , when going at a retailer, not supposed to buy a costume but you know how it ends... it suited me so beautyfully and I couldn't leave it there... So paid 250$ (twice than what I would've paid for Hanan) and left with a nice black and gold dress with the fringed hip wrap and matching headband with lots of beading..g.:... Shame on me!!!
I've put it in my closet and haven't shown my boyfriend yet, like a little girl who doesn't want to admit that she bought candy's with monney she was supposed to have lunch with...

Re: Pattern for stretchy "Saidi" dress?
Sorry to resurrect an older thread, but can anyone tell me about how many yards of fabric this takes per dress?
I'm going to be making a bunch of these for a stage show, and I'd like to start scrounging fabric.Last edited by jmdruadh; 08-24-2010 at 12:45 PM.

Re: Pattern for stretchy "Saidi" dress?
All of mine have only been 3 yds of fabric per outfit (one I made was 4 yds for a taller gal)... it all depends on the length of dress you need to make... you need to take the length (adding in hem allowance of course) and double that... this will get you the right yardage.

Great! I wasn't sure if the sleeves would add significantly to the yardage.
