too much salt or sugar or hormones make pain worse?
have had a recent flare up again of flip flop itis...i started wearing flip flops again with no foot pain then suddenly the same week as pms when i was shoveling in mounds of salt and sugar i had CRIPPLING pain in the heels, usually it's in the arches but the last few days my heels hurt so bad that i walk on tip toe. also have a migraine.
could the sudden flare up be hormone or diet related?
am gonna eat nothing but carrots today

Hmmm, I don't know about sugar and salt, but I can tell you that a lifestyle of wearing flipflops is bad for the feet. Wearing flipflops as your primary foot wear can cause hammer toes.
I personally tend to go barefoot most of the time at home. If you do it enough, you build up a beneficial style of callous on the sole of the foot that gives you really good protection. When I leave the house, I wear Birkenstock sandals which are better than flipflops with respect to preventing hammertoe.

jes, go ahead and eat carrots but do yourself a favor and ditch the flip flops! Wear real shoes! Your feet will reward you with more years of pain-free walking.

Agree with the ditching of the flip flops if they are the traditional type with no arch support, etc.
now, the other thing that you are correct on is that hormones can cause joints to ache more because for some women when the are pmsing / menstruating, the hormones cause the cartilage to expand, which causes achy joints. And migraines. So, switch shoes, lay off the salt (makes PMS and cramps worse) and have a glass of red wine for any menstral cramps.

Read up on reducing inflammation, too. There are things you can just stop eating that will help prevent inflammation, which leads to so much health trouble, all over.

I think the main problem is the flip flops, check out this short NY Times article:
Summer Flip-Flops May Lead to Foot Pain - Well Blog - NYTimes.com
For comfortable, cute walking shoes, I can recommend Skechers.
SKECHERS Official Shoe Store - Women's Shoes - Featuring Suede | Patent Accents | Brocade | Sweater Knits | Corduroy | Wedge Heels
I'm a believer.
