Thread: Help! Which shoes?

Is it inappropriate to wear high heels with a black mini cocktail dress? I hate my stubby legs in flats but I don't want to look like a complete slut either. Hubby thinks the heels look better but I don't want his old school chums thinking I was hired for the night... ..l;,..l;, Any solutions? BTW, I hate kitten heels so I wouldn't go with those.

Go for the heels and please him. You can't worry about pleasing everyone. Your damed if you do and your damed it you don't. Someone always has to say something. Instead of thinking that you look like a slut, feel like his queen right at his side and be proud of it!

I am all about the heels! The higher the better :) If you feel good that is what matters

The standard rule of thumb is, more leg less cleavage and vice versa.

Men don't care about stuff like that anyway. His friends will be all "OMG how did he score such a hottie".

I wouldn't do flats for a cocktail dress and a festive occassion seems to call for heels. Your husband seems to like you in heels so why not! As long as you don't act like a slut, then there shouldn't be any reason for his friends to think you were hired for the night. ..l;, Go for the heels, show off your legs and let your hubby bask in the fact he has a beautiful wife and is proud of you.

I would wear heels with black hosiery. Seams optional. This will make you look like you have legs to your armpits!

I would think a black cocktail dress would *require* high heels. I can't imagine flats with that.

I'm undecided about hosiery...but I think I'm leaning toward fishnet, a nice combination between nude & black hose.

Thanks for the input everyone! I think I have decided to wear my stilletto peep toe mary janes with nude toeless hosiery. The black hosiery looked weird with the peep toe. Oh and you all didn't see the back of the dress:

If you want to be super fashion-forward (which is always going to peeve a woman), coloured heels will do it, otherwise black is safe and elegant. And minimal jewellery. I wouldn't even wear a necklace - the back is accessory enough.

agreed! black heels, nude stockings, and minimal jewelry as zum said: just earrings like the model in the pic looks great. don't overdo the makeup with this one either.

The only thing I would suggest on the dress is taking it and having a tailor put a black invisible zipper in. The chrome is a little jarring.

I agree that the zipper is jarring. I wonder why they went with silver. It cheapens the dress (despite the $98.00 price tag). I really hate to spend any more money on it though. Also, the event is in 2 days so I am not sure they will have enough time. :o(
