Re: Dress is too short...ideas?
Hey girl!! I recently had this problem and I made 5 modestly panels and attached them via snaps evenly around the skirt. So it ended up looking like it has gores all around but gives extra flounce and twirl!!

Re: Dress is too short...ideas?
What about something like this in light blue with a partial modest panel in the front, but obviously cleaner lines?

Re: Dress is too short...ideas?
i'm not much into velvet skirts so don't take my answer as being 100% sure, but yeah i guess, i don't see why it wouldn't work.
how about something like this?
cutting slits between the beading bits, cutting the strips into slight triangles at the bottom, and adding blue velvet inserts (in shape more or less like the one i drew in orange)
would make the skirt fuller and longer as well as not touch the beading (maybe kinda wavy along the bottom but i don't think that would be too bad, could be worked around according to the shape of the insert)

Re: Dress is too short...ideas?
Yeah kinda like that except the panels would have more fabric to them giving the illusion of length! But yeah thats where I got the idea from! ;-)Hey! You mean kind of like the green costume? I was thinking about that too.

Re: Dress is too short...ideas?
I kind of like Kathiya idea. So I put on my turquoise chiffon skirt and folded the dress under to see how it would look. What do you think? I don't know if I'd do turquoise but this was the closest I had to get an idea.
ETA: Maybe cut around the beaded areas of the bottom that would get cut off and make appliques and attach them to the back above the chiffon? or would that be too much?Last edited by MahiraRaqs; 02-10-2009 at 05:15 PM.

It needs some beadwork at the seam - are the appliques too big to use there? I would only add sequins to the hem of the chiffon and not throughout the skirt. IMHO, of course. Feel free to take it or leave it, but dayum that's a great color for you!

The way it is folded cut off the applique, but I'm sure you were aware of it. Also, I'm not sure about the horizontal line across the hip with the diagnol chiffon. JUST MY OPIONION.

Re: Dress is too short...ideas?
Using a skirt underneath the dress was brilliant. Great way to do a bit of trial-and-error without touching scissors or thread.
The skirt addition would be lovely in a mottled silk that includes all the colors of the dress. I am not fond of fullness on a sleek gown, if mine to rework I would cut the fabric on a curve so there's a minimum of bulk with a lovely flare. If you could find a compatible soft knit with a bit of metallic it might make a nice accent. Not microdot but something similar to the base fabric.
I think it would be nice if the velvet was cut in a deep trailing manner to the back of your knees. Very elegant and dramatic. The fabric you remove would make lovely sleeves. If you cut the sleeves so the outer edge of the fabric with beadwork would be on the edge and carefully stitch the tube closed it would appear original. Including a bit of the skirt fabric would be a nice touch.

I like the look of it but the shade of the turquoise blue chiffon seems wrong. Maybe something closer to the actual dress color. And you'd have to work around the beaded part in front that's sticking out in the photo. It definitely can be done and then you can take the extra beaded velvet left overs and make armbands with flared chiffon sleeves in a matching color - fun! ..g.: Remember the key is to keep it from looking like you did any alterations.

Re: Dress is too short...ideas?
ooooo I like it, on the diagonal..slimming and torso lenghtening. Type in huge vintage dark blue or saphire rhinestone brooch into ebay and use one at the top of the slit for the transition. See that light sky blue sheen on the dark velvet in your photos where the light hits it just right...that color of chiffon ! I would also lift up the back of the dress under the butt a couple of more inches for a longer line in the back, and then bead the transition line all the way around.
Wadda ya think?

I like this idea too...wonder if instead of lifting the line up towards the hip in back if you could angle the back line similar to the front line and use the beads you're losing from that border to do an edge that goes along the velvet and into the chiffon in places. That would def. tie it all together!

Re: Dress is too short...ideas?
not too hot on the horizontal seam at the back, it isn't too flattering, so maybe have it come at a point on the side of your right leg. and dark blue chiffon would prolly look best. but other than that, as girls say link it all together with some beading and it'll look awesome!!! :)
