Thread: how much to pay for a yard of lycra fabric?

i'm a newbie at this but i wanted to make a trip down to the local fabric store and get some supplies cuz i have several things i wanted to buy. looking at their prices online they range from $12-$15 per yard but then i remembered i could get a yard from a friend in CA for like $6! i know it varies by state and store but what's a reasonable amount you should spend for those of u that make your own costumes often? i guess ebay can't tell much considering that they're pretty much always cheaper than the store lol

I pay around $8 to $10 per yard at spandexhouse.com for a really nice quality lycra. Never see much worth the price at the fabric stores I have been in. Have had fantastic luck on ebay - with the occasional mistake or bad deal.

ahh i see, man they've got a lot of stuff! good to know it's good quality too! the only issue is ya never know the real color till ya get it ya know? i'll try them out tho if i end up buying in bulk.

Wow, they have awesome stuff! I may have to brush up on my sewing skills and make my own shorty skirt. ,r:;

I use my 1/2 coupon from Joanne fabrics.
Join their mailing list, most times they send you 40% off coupons, but every so often it's 50%.
You can also buy their Joanne fabric magazine (don't remember what it's called), and in the back of the book, there's usually some coupons. I think the book was around $4.00. It had two 50%, two 40%, two 30% coupons, good until sometime in December.

It was worth the $4.00, because I bought about 12 yards of metallic lycra fabric for $7.50 a yard instead of $15 per yard.

Oh, and they have a 50% off coupon in their most recent mailings.
They MIGHT have them in the Sunday newspaper! :-)
