(PICS ADDED) Is there a way to find out when a costume was made?

I just purchased a Pharaonics of Egypt costume from a friend. It is gonna need some work and I would like to be able to restore it back to its "original" condition. Does anyone know of a board or album which may display pictures of Pharaonics of Egypt costumes? I believe this is from the late 90's.

    Thanks!

Your best bet would probably be to ask Dahlal. She has been dealing with them for a long time.

Or post a photo here. A lot of people on this board are pretty costume savvy.

The new Pharonix website has some pics of older style costumes, maybe you can find a pic on there?

You can send a picture of it to Amira and ask her. It may be a knock off of one of her costumes.

it actually has the pharaonics tags but it just does not "feel" like a pharaonics. I don't know - maybe their quality back then was different than it is now.

I will post up a picture tomorrow and see what happens ;-)

costume comes with 4 cuffs (each have a blue scarab) and some kind of head design. Very Pharaonic style costume...

Just wish I knew more about it.

    Does anyone have this costume?

I believe Dahlal had something similar to this years ago.

Wow - I see what you mean, that doesn't "feel" like a pharonics to me, either. The fringe on the skirt seems way off from typical and even older pharonics. Do you think someone sewed in a Pharonics tag?

(This costume is very pretty, I don't want to imply that it's not, it just doesn't say Pharonics to me either.)

Also - try the Wayback machine to see older versions of a website, I searched for Dahlal and there are pages back to 2000.

I am not sure. I know that the original owner of the costume went to Cairo a few times so I wonder it it could have been a "custom order". I know I remember her saying that it was a Pharaonics. Again - I say "I don't think so" but the Pharaonics tag is located on every piece of the costume - including cuffs! This is so odd...

If you look at the Pharaonics advertised in Habibi magazine from the 1990s they are unlike anything Pharaonics is doing now. I have a vintage Pharaonics dress that is totally unlike any Pharaonics anyone has seen. But every piece has the distinctive label and the dress is obvious well made and carefully tailored to fit with alterations made in the same thread and stitch as the original construction. Not mass produced. Imagine this one was not either.

It is a Pharonics. I saw this exact costume in a Pharonics Faishon Show. The show was hosted by one of Audrena's Representatives. It was about 10 years ago.

OMG! Thank you! I thought maybe the costume was made in 98 or 99 That would be about right!

Now - if I can only find a picture. Maybe I will contact Audrena and see if she can help...

I can see that the bra is like an ancestor to the Great Loop, there are similarities in where the fringe starts and the decorated band above it, and in the shape of the bra.

The belt shape closing with a medallion is like another vintage Pharonics that I have.

    This was a fun thread!

just wanted to say - wow! what an incredibly fantastic costume. I LOVE it! I remember back when they used to have a lot of costumes with pleated skirts like that. is there beading down each crease of the skirt?? wow.
