Pics of make up on blondes

Hi, I'm looking for some pics of performance make up on blondes. I'm blonde (dyed) with darker streaks, green eyes and fair/pinky/some freckles skinned. Would love to be able to do something more dramatic with my make up for performance as I would like to look more "glam". I look bloody awful with red lips though but would like something more "belly dancer ish" so was hoping I would be able to get some inspiration from pics if anybody has or seen any..g.:

There was a thread about dramatic make up for Blondes. Let me see if I can find it.

Here it is. There are nice pics. of Scarlett Johanson and Charleze Theron.

    Other performers to look up:

    Yasmina Ramzy
    Beata Zadou

I had also thought of the thread that Michelle75 is gonna look up for you.
Check out fashion magazines/editorial spreads. They often have fair hair/fair skinned models with bold makeup.

    hey

    former blonde here,

realised it was all in my head, what i thought did and didnt work for me, so just experiment!!!

i was really scared of using enough, thought it made me look trampy, but after a while realised that for stage i need deep red lipstick, black khol and coloured in eye brows too, just like any other hair colour ;-)

Re: Pics of make up on blondes

Here's a really tight closeup to make my makeup job easier to see:

Here are a couple of comments about the above photo...

    1. The performance was going to be on a raised stage in an enormous room. So I went for sharper contrasts and less blending than I would when dancing between the tables at a restaurant. I use different makeup styles for "up close and personal" environments like birthday parties in people's living rooms than I do for a "farther away from the audience" environment like a stage. So bear that in mind as you look at this photo.

    2. When I had my colors done, I was judged to be a "summer", which means that they recommend subtle, somewhat muted colors rather than bold, bright ones. So for makeup, that means I choose either berry or burgundy for my lips instead of bright scarlet red. I choose brown eyeliner and mascara instead of black. I choose taupe for the eyelid crease. I choose light brown for the eyebrows.

Since you mentioned you have freckles and green eyes, you might prefer different colors from those I use. Are your skin tones sort of dusty rose-ish or are they sort of peach-ish? Mine are rose-ish with blue undertones. If yours are peach, you might consider lipstick that's sort of brick red or copper, peach highlighting around the eyes, and copper for the darker eye shadow color. You could experiment with teal for your eyeliner, mascara, and darker shadow color if you like.

Wotevah you do, make sure your cheeks and lips always match your skin tone to look the most natural. There is more room for play with color around the eyes.

As Shira mentioned, check to see if you have pink or yellow undertones.

You will have the information on how to check your skin tone and color theory basics in your DVD booklet, which is going out tomorrow!

oh man i always have trouble w/this..
i have dirty blonde hair (never dyed or put in highlights but it has so many crazy colors all on its own...) w/hazel-green eyes that look almost yellow (that's how my mom and boyfriend describe them lol) when i wear black, green, or brown eyeshadow/liner and i have a lighter beige skin tone, way paler now that it's winter
of course when i'm on stage we have to wear black but i feel like i look sooo scary w/all that on there b/c it makes my eyes look like cat eyes and the fact that i'm a bit pale now that it's winter doesn't help...and i do NOT like red lipstick on me..adds to the scariness look lol

and i never know if i have pink or yellow undertones..i once read that you can also check that based on if gold or silver jewelry works best for ya which i guess would be if you're "warm" or "cool"...but i personally think either one looks fine on me, maybe i'm delusional or something haha

i also hate to wear eye liner on my lower lids b/c i feel that it doesn't look on my eye shape i guess

i would love to hear some examples on how to fix any of these issues lol

Hi love! Don't think of them as "issues." They define your unique stamp of beauty!!

No, one does not always have to wear black. There are other shades, such as charcoal, dark blues, browns, and purples. In fact, purples for you would be amazing because of your eyecolor. If you have greenish-yellow eyes, they would pop even more if you used purples.

You can have both skin tones. The question is, which is more dominant? There are several ways to determine, in addition to the gold/silver jewelry test. Put on a stark white shirt and see how you look. Pale, washed out? Vibrant, glowing? Or what underlying color do you see in your skin? Is it rosey, ruddy? Or yellow, beigey, gold?

Based on that, you can determine what your dominant underlying skin tone is. You can totally be both. Your cheek color and lip color should always match your dominant underlying skin tone. So perhaps red is not your color to begin with. OR, there could be a red that has more blue in it or more orange in it that works better for you. There is every shade of color conceivable that will have more red or more yellow in it. From that you can choose a whole color palette that looks good on you.

Another way to check is to wear bright pink lipstick and then bright orange lipstick (or cream eye shadow, whatever, it's all just powders, creams, and liquids). See which one makes you look pale, sick, washed out, or fresh, vibrant, and alive...

Depends on your eye shape and application. See DVD for that.

as a fellow blond, it can be hard to get good makeup with light hair. You might also want to try setting up a makeup session with MAC, but be sure to bring pictures of the look you want. If you just say stage makeup, you'll never know what you'll get.....

I have yellow undertones and brown eyes so deep rich colors look best. Brown, purple and gold have the best effects. But, you can always mix and match if you know what you're doing. One thing to play up your green eyes is to use black eyeliner on the inside of your lower lids: will make your eyes pop.

Here's one of the looks I do. My hair is actually much lighter, but I'm lying on a dark backdrop so it translates darker in the pic:

See if this helps identify your undertones - in each pair of colors, identify which one you think looks more flattering next to your face. If you're not sure, try to find pieces of fabric that represent these colors and hold them next to your face while looking in a brightly lit mirror:

    dusty rose or peach?
    bluish teal or forest green?
    burgundy wine or vibrant copper?
    raspberry or rust?
    seafoam green or lime green?
    royal blue or bright orange?
    dark gray or dark brown?
ivory or the tan color of a manila folder?

If most of your answers come from the first color named, you should go with the advice for blue/pink undertones. If most of your answers come from the second color named, you should go with the advice for yellow undertones.

hmm well let's see. i tallied up the answers and i got 5 for the first color and 3 for both. for those that i chose both the second colors (which were forest green, rust, and dark brown) i feel complement my hair and eye color and aren't too harsh on my skin tone either.
and as far as with the jewelry thing i mentioned earlier, it's weird cause i wear silver jewelery w/colors that complement that (soft pinks, gray, etc.) and i feel more toned down in them while when i wear things that go w/gold i feel more bold..yet this silly strategy of mine still doesn't help me lol

so i guess i do have predominately pink undertones but can possibly pull off some colors that those w/yellow undertones could pull off...? it's a bit hard cause my hair and eyes don't have a definite ONE color and i know this is about skin but don't these 2 bring that all together as well?!

Since we're talking makeup colors (as opposed to clothing colors), you definitely should think in terms of which colors look good with your skin rather than what looks good with your hair. If you want to wear costumes that suit the other palette, go ahead and do it if you like how they look on you.

Since you think your skin undertones are predominantly pink, you should be able to look good wearing the same colors of makeup that I said I use.

Re: Pics of make up on blondes

A person with pink undertones to their skin can most definitely wear gold in some cases IMO. I don't suit gold and I am 90 percent in the first category of colours that Shira lists. Put peach or orange near me and it's a very frightening picture. I really am a winter. However, my ex - who started life as a very light redhead but is now a dirty blond with eyes that can only really be described as khaki - has very ruddy colouring, and gold suits him very well, especially rose gold. He looks his absolute best in olive drab and, oddly, lavender.

The way you describe your colouring sounds rather like his and I would expect that cooler versions of autumnal shades (if that makes sense) would be nice on you. Brown rather than black, but not too yellow a brown, olive, forest, cream, and a rusty red rather than a brick or too blue red?

Re: Pics of make up on blondes

Thanks everybody, there has been loads of great tips and pics here. I tried out shira's colour test and I'm definately pink/blue skin toned ( the other colours look sick inducing next to me!) Think my main problem has been with my lips as I tend to wear little colour on them normally as they are quite full ( I look like one big mouth if I wear red!) and I quite like the dark eyed neutral lip look , however I know this look doesn't work for performance so I've got a few quite bright "berry pink" colour lip glosses that I think might work.

Can anybody recommend any brand of false eyelashes? I like the thicker 60's look and do NOT suit long feathery ones ( which look great on everybody else, not fair) but can't seem to find the kind I like in the Uk?

Azhia, so excited about your dvd, can't wait to get it and of course I will then HAVE to run out and buy lots of new make-up. Don't suppose you have any plans to come to the UK? I think we could do with some help over here (well I do anyway) with performance make up, hair, photoshoots etc ( all the lovely girly glam bits really)

Also does anybody know if there is a MAC make up artist in Scotland? Not sure if it is being sold in any of the larger stores, I've bought a few things online but would love to get my make up done by one of their professionals?

    Miss Daisy,

If there is enough interest in my work, I will seriously go anywhere, and would absolutely adore an opportunity to go the U.K. to workshop performance/photography/beauty makeup and hair. My girl Razia is there and she can vouch for her experiences with me.

Most department store makeup counter sales reps are trained so they should be able to help you out.

I think you can get away with a neutral lip and dark eye. I did it all the time when I had braces and did not want to draw attention to my mouth. Especially possible if you have full lips. Try a shade or 2 darker than your natural lip color (in your skin tone, of course!) and some gloss in the center; sometimes that's all you need.

If there is one near you, check out a chain of beauty stores called Fuschia. I'd love to hear of any experiences with that retailer and what they carry.

There is a mac counter in Harvey Nichols in Edinburgh and Frasers in Glasgow. You will need to book a faur bit in advance if you want a saturday slot tho, and it cost £20 or £25 the last time I had a makeover with mac - though this is redeemable against any purchases on the day. I use mac or shu uemura lashes, both of them will apply the lashes for no extra cost and can advise on the best ones for the look you are trying to achieve and your eye shape (I have smallish eyes so the artist suggested I cut the lashes I bought in half, this makes them a bit easier to apply too, I think). I LOVE the duo glue from mac - I could never get anything to stick with the eyelure brand glue that you get with lashes from boots or superdrug.

Re: Pics of make up on blondes

    Hi

Being a blondey just thought I'd add my version of performance makeup.

This is what I usually do for a hafla, where you're relatively up close and don't have full stage lighting. Please forgive the dodgy web cam shot, didn't know quite where to look...hehe

For stage I would add falsies and work the contrast more in my eyes and extend my liquid eye line, I would do some contouring to my face, and also go darker for lips and cheeks. But my basic application method stays the same. Just for reference my eyebrows are usually so blonde you can't see them but I tint usually and then pencil on top of that for performance.

As blondes we can only look so "exotic" but I think the trick is to play on the overall paleness/lightness and try to make your favourite feature (eyes, lips, cheekbones, whatever) just pop out of your face.
