Holiday Dresses - 2 great options under $40 at Target

    Peeps,

I found two dresses at Target today - one of which I bought - that are very very cute and fancy enough for any holiday shindig. If you're like me, you always need something for the holiday gatherings that won't break the bank but will still look good enough to wear on lots of other occasions.

I tried this one on but seriously - the sizing runs small - I tried on a 14 and even that was too tight. It's probably good for a straight body shape in your normal sizing or if you're curvy - you'll need to go up about 2 sizes then adjust the armholes. ($39) This is really pretty in an Audrey Hepburn kind of way - zoom in on the link to see the detail.

I bought the one below and LOVE it - it's plushy velvet-velour and an A-line shape which is tremendously flattering. This one is $34.

Ohhh, I really like the one you purchased. I didn't pay attention, but what colors did they have other than black?

The first would not look good on me b/c of my hips and arms. Cursed things.

I was planning on buying the first one and wearing with a jacket or shrug or scarf - that would totally cover the upper arms but still show enough ...

They only have black in the first one but there were some satin colored options (jewel tones) of that black velvet one. Do a search on the Target site for "limited edition dresses" and you'll find them all.

    Alrana -
I didn't try on the satin dresses but after clicking over to look at them again, I'm thinking I should have. I always buy black and if there's a stretch velvet option I'll go for that first b/c it's so cozy. Maybe I'll go check that satin version out next weekend, or if you get it this week - let me know how it looks in/on person.

Those are adorable! I *love* the 'little black dress' look.

I wanted this one for a 'red party' I'm attending/performing at

but the gorgeous scarlet color that was in the print catalog isn't available until January. So now I'm scouring e-bay for a used, fabulous, classy, sexy rrrrrred dress in a size 12 (hint hint PM me if you've got one).

I will probably go to target on thursday I got to pick up a few household items. I'm the type of person who orders without trying on. But I will let you know if they run big or small in sizing.

I scoped them out at Target. They are nice for what they are.
Well I went to see the satin ones to me up close looked a bit cheap.(I may exchange it when i get it for the velvet one) the velvet ones to me looked nicer than the satin ones. They run normal size by the way. I tried it on. The satin one didn't flatter me at all. My hubby will just have to deal with another black velvet dress in the closet.

I knew it! when I started reading your post I suspected you were referring to the very dress I was just eyeballing at l'target today.

I was there to buy some kind of cheap cute blouse to wear w/ jeans to a party tonight and there was nothing! Maybe I didn't look hard enough but there didn't seem to be anything that I saw that said "this one", which I can usually do w/ no problem at target. Just lots of wierd sweaters with cowl necks and unflattering hemlines.

hmmph. maybe they used up all of the cuteness on the dresses.

Good to know - Target is so hit and miss - and many of their dresses are cute in concept but then they pick dumb colors or get the proportion just wrong enough for them to look cute on hanger, bad on person (what I find with all the Mizrahi stuff).

I've worn the velvet dress twice already (with tights & boots) and the only thing about it is that I wish it was a tad bit longer or maybe a tad bit shorter - it hits at a funny spot on the knee. It will be a good year round evening dress - bare legs in the summer, boots in the winter.

I went and checked out the dresses yesterday and the satin ones didn't leave the rack. The velvet ones were gone.

I did however buy the cutest black and multicolored shear blouse that buttons up the front with capped sleeves. LOVE it and it's flattering. Can't find it on the website to share.
