    CAIW: How to fix?

Cheap Ass Isis Wings. Or maybe not so cheap. Regardless, the plastic rods are threatening to wear through on BOTH ends. I can remove the rods by opening the seam at the bottom end of the rod pockets - but then what? Pad the ends of the rods somehow? Reinforce the pockets? How do I reinforce the upper end? Blah, blah.

They're pretty heavy Lame' - but they're gonna look like crap really quick if I don't "do something" soon...

Wow, you wore them OUT? Maybe you should do one last fabulous dance with them and torch them. It WOULD be spectacular.

If you don't have any matching lame, you can pick out a bit of the end seams and make a small pocket under the casing end out of another, sturdier fabric. Lame does fray.

    Re: CAIW: How to fix?

There was a thread here awhile ago talking about this very thing. There were some good suggestions on how to fix this problem. Here it is:

Ok - so I think we should add CAIW to the Bhuzzisms thread. ..l;,

Ah yes, thank you Shahla! This post from THTX makes a lot of sense to me!

Go to your local hardware store and get replacement blind turners, usually available for a couple of dollars each. These are clear and flexible, allowing for some lovely wing flutters, and they don't break as easily if you happen to hit your wings on a low-hanging ceiling or spotlight.

Then, open your pocket down at the end of your wings. You may reinforce the wing pocket at the end with a piece of felt, the soft side of a piece of velcro, or a small piece of soft leather, folded over to make a pocket large enough for the end of your stick to slide into, and then stitched. Stitch the stick sleeve into the end of your wings, slide your blind turner down into the little pocket, and make sure the entire seam down the length of the stick pocket is stitched closed (you may decide to leave the pocket unstitched at the top so that you can easily remove your sticks for packing or replacement).

You can also glue a piece of felt to the opposite end of the sticks, to help keep them from wearing through the fabric at the end where they are gripped.

    Does this help?
I already have the blind turner rods in mine, sounds like the felt/leather reinforcement idea is the ticket!

You may consider CAIW part of the Bhuz lexicon! We could expand it: CAZ (Zills), CAS (Shemadan (!)), CAC (Costume), etc...

CAC is amazing....the sound is just so suggestive of what those costumes really are (try it in your head with a Boston accent for extra effect)
