finally started making my polynesian costume!!
don't have pics now since i'm at work but i swear i was sewing for a good 4 hours and i'm not even done w/the bra. i have a totally new respect for costume creators now
i bought an unfinished costume project a while ago here on bhuz which included a decorated bra and belt. i took off that fabric (red glitterdot) and bought my own from spandexhouse. this will basically be a bra and belt set worn with a grass skirt (layered over 3 times of course because ya need that much coverage and i'll probably buy some lycra shorts that match the color to wear underneath just to be safe). it will have little cowrie shells embroider on both bra and belt. it will look fab
however main problem i've run in to:
-the bra fit me fine before but now since i covered it 3 times (don't know y i did that by the way, read it somewhere, but now i know better), it doesn't quite fit as comfortable in the back as i would like to so it looks like i'll have to add an extension and more hooks and snap ons to ensure i won't bust out lol it gives me cleavage tho altho not too much so it doesn't look inappropriate
-the belt ran kind of small before so i'll have to add more to that, but right now i'm still working on the bra so i will worry about that later
the color is a dark blue. the shells will be white. i'm thinking i might get a blue grass skirt to go w/it.
i'm glad i finally started making it since the hafla where our level 1 class will be performing at is in january and i'm leaving the country next week so things are hectic. but i bought waay too much fabric (2 yds.) so i'm thinking i'll have at least a good yard left, so if anyone is interested let me know.
pics before and after (as much as i have done now at least) will come later! :)Last edited by ZanaRaqs; 12-05-2008 at 11:18 AM. Reason: spelling

alright here are some pics. before it was the red that you see, pic from the bhuzzer i bought it from, and then after is the blue. i'm showing the general outside, the closeup of the fabric (you can see the little detail on the fabric), and then the inside which part is lined.
doesn't look like much but i promise it will look fab! hehe

and yay i finally figured out how to embedd pics in a post, but sorry they're so big.

Re: finally started making my polynesian costume!!
ok so i ended up taking off the extra two layers of blue fabric leaving just the first one (didn't feel like having to add an extension to make it fit, now it fits fine). had to readd the straps and finished lining the bra (wanted it to match the whole set and this way i got some practice in). i had to re add the straps and i added the hooks but it looks like ill have to adjust them again because its a tad bit loose. i have to add on the blue to the sides of the bra cuz i took those off while i basically re did the bra
whew, lot of work, hopefully tomorrow i will finish the bra and then be able to work on the belt. waitin for my shells to come in :)
my fingers hurt :-/
