Cut-Outs on a Bra-has anyone made them?
I am designing with cut-outs.
I want to do some on the bra. What is the best approach?
Cut out the shape on the bra first, and then cover it? Or cover it first and then cut holes in it and just leave the edge raw? Lots of the better turkish costumes just leave the edge raw and do not sew/tuck it under to the back (the fabric is crushed velvet so it doesnt really fray) Also, wire seems to be typical on the bra cut shape? I do not want to screw up a $25 bra!!.w.:
Has anyone here attempted this and what was your experience?Last edited by auraevans; 12-06-2008 at 08:43 AM.

While I haven't actually done it, I have contemplated it. My approach was going to be to do the cut outs first, then reinforce the cutouts with grosgrain ribbon and wire if it needs it, then cover it last wrapping the fabric into the bra to cover the raw edges of the cutouts.

Salima made a beautiful blue costume with bra cutouts. Pictures and a description of how she did it are in the last 'what are you working on' thread I think. Post pictures when you make progress on yours, your costumes always look lovely!

Hmm, it looks like the pics were removed from the old thread. It was on this page
http://www.bhuz.com/forum/fitness-be...-thread-3.html
Here is her description of the process:
Insinde bra and belt I take stuff like jeans but in white and over this with ironing fleece (we say Vlies in German). This is a thin stuff from synthetic and it's glue at the white-stuff after ironing. So it's become stonger. Here You can cut out what You like. After than You can take the stuuf for outside (for example lycra ) and put it over all and stitch it inside. Than You can made the embroidery. Inside the edge I stitch wire.
Best regards
Salima
